Am I the only one who has been disturbed by the recent surge in baby or small child versions of national clothing stores? I refer to things such as Baby Gap and Pottery Barn Kids. There is no reason that a small child needs a room out of Better Homes and Gardens. None. I'm sorry a five year old never needs a $649.99 retro pink play kitchen sink. None. And I don't care that it comes in a complete set with matching dolls, drapes, and tea cups. It's just wrong. Just like I feel that the American Girls stores which feature "Doll Makeover" counters where you can (not kidding) get your American Girl Doll's hair brushed and have her makeup done. All for the bargain price of $35. And if that isn't enough, you can also have lunch with your American Doll at their oh-so-special lunchroom. The price for a "Very Special Tea" with you and your doll? $50. Uh...right...so...you do realize the doll actually doesn't consume food?
Ok, this is all a preamble to the addition of another element of horror concerning modern society. J.Crew already has subscribed to the small child/baby demographic (named appropriately enough "Crewcuts"). Well, forgive me, I was trawling the site in a fit of online shopping madness and came upon a link which made my blood run cold. Located right below Crewcuts on the site is....
Crewmutts. In our society, a "nautical-stripe dog sweater" will set you back $55.
Do I need to say anything else?
