Hey there! Already loving the community and I can't wait to see the submissions for the contest.

Some stuff about me. I graduated from university in 2007; I was a film major so I've got some experience. I guess I've always liked taking pictures but it wasn't until I went to Rome for spring break two years ago that I realized how fun it is not to just point and click but to really set up shots and make them look nice. And it wasn't until recently that I got a new computer and found a shiny photo editor. It's just what came with the computer but it's got controls for contrast, brightness, saturation, tint and so on. I've been going kinda nuts with it and I put some before and after shots in my journal here.

I use a simple little HP digital camera (it's nothing special but I like it and it came with a printer). I didn't have my own digital camera when I went to Rome so I borrowed a friend's so I have no clue what that is.

Ohh, Rome is so pretty. Actually, I didn't mess with this picture at all, this is exactly how the camera took it. This is just a point and shoot deal.

Another shot of the Forum in Rome. I'm more proud of this one than the previous one since it took a little more work. There's some after effects but I like how the columns fill the space.

Actually, I think my strength is framing. I really like foregrounding especially. Examples!

From inside the Vatican. I can take pictures stateside, I promise.

Told ya. This is in the Adirondacks in upstate New York. Not that I can't take pictures of cities as well.

Copley Plaza in Boston. The lovely juxtaposition of old and new was already there, I just had to find the right angle.

This is in the UU church in downtown Boston. This isn't a great picture since it's blurry and hard to read but I kinda like it. I realized there was a big ugly exit sign after I took it so I took another picture from further over. Upon further reflection, it's pretty funny to have the big Exodus sign next to the exit.

I am living in NYC now and I'm not particularly inspired by skyscrapers so much as I am by trees so I would like to see what other members have done.

What I'm not so great at: single objects and/or closeups. I'm going to lay some of the blame on my camera who doesn't focus well for extreme closeups. Not that they're stunning pictures to begin with.

Yuck huh? Bo-ring.

I tried to fix the problem by blurring the picture on purpose. It's not so great.

Thought it would be cool to do a still life type with some fruit that was all the same color (throwing some garlic in just to mix it up a bit). Yeah, clearly didn't work out so well. No amount of fiddling with the contrast can save this puppy.

So that's my pics, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Con-crit is welcome. See you around!
