That's it in a nutshell. Conventional morality has trouble evaluating their actions, since they're so far out of the realm of human experience. I'm glad Clark has learned that the simple labels don't always apply.

I think Clark HAS to be wise here, or it would be an insult. He's over a century old and has had plenty of time to reflect on the events of his life and observe how people behave in conflict situations.

You fit a lot of history into s small amount of words, but the emotions run through it. Poor Lex. His understanding of his situation is profound and sad, but that he turns to Clark immediately... that Clark is there to accept that request.

Poor Clark would have it either way, but Lex can only see the probable bad outcomes and won't take that leap of faith. So sad.

I'm consoling myself that this is merely the prologue to a story where Clark figures out a way to give them both a happy ending (with or without obscurity).
