Remember the Wicked Pretty Things debacle?
Of course you do. Jessica Verday has now
decided what to do with the story she refused to straightwash: "I'm extremely grateful to be able to say that my short story
'Flesh Which Is Not Flesh' (Cameron and Wesley's story) is now available as an eBook on Amazon, and from now through August 31, 50% of the proceeds from this story will go to the
Living Beyond Tolerance scholarship. I'm hoping we can meet that $200 goal. Exceed it even. Perhaps $500? $1,000?" She also says that the scholarship is "for someone who is LGBT or an Ally and is doing something to make sure everyone is accepted, not just tolerated."
Meanwhile: linkspam! Also: cupcakes.

Back to the Batwoman vs. DC comics kerfuffle:
Womanthology, "an anthology graphic novel created entirely by women for charity [...] to showcase the works of female creators of every age and experience levels." As
megalosaurusexplains, "It's raised way over twice it's projected cost to print and it still has 5 days before fundraising is over. It's been a pretty cool blow to the Marvel/DC 'women don't make or read comics/men don't want to read about women unless they're sexy' mindset that some people have."

Reviews
Those damned dirty apes are really good! Two 8.5/10 reviews for Rise of the Planet of the Apes; @christylemire:
You maniacs, you blew it up, etc. My review of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" (a few hours earlier: "Writing my Apes review and can't get this out of my head. 'I hate every ape I see from chimpan-A to chimpan-Z ...' ");
@Annaleen: "Rise of the Planet of the Apes was like a magnificent work of art mashed up with a B-movie. Delicious"';
@ropeofsilicon: "I didn't enjoy Rise of the Planet of the Apes as much as all these Twitter raves, but I'm happy to see them... I definitely want a sequel." Also:

'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' Visual Effects Featurette Reveals WETA's Technical Brilliance;
Not surprisingly, PETA really, really loves Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes: “Apes are the heroes of this film, and humans are the villains,” PETA crowed in a statement, praising a movie where, at long last, the apes kill the humans and take over the world, like out of some beautiful, beautiful dream. You guys in PETA do realize that, in this scenario, these super-intelligent, pissed-off apes would rip your face off, right? Does their moral victory outweigh the reality of your face being eaten? Just putting a hypothetical out there.

Ryan Reynolds Says The Change-Up Is No Dumber Than A Movie About Talking Apes. In @Miranda_July's 'The Future', everything is possible. I don't really have anything for The Slot, so instead I will show you cupcakes. Mmm, cupcakes.
We dared the 106-degree heat to go out and try this
Gigi's Cupcakes place. I am pretty sure we will be going back.
Cupcake descriptions are here. We have cut a few in half and tested them, and I can now say that the super-chocolate Midnight Magic is really good. My mother kind of liked the Southern Comfort (read: pecan pie cupcake), but couldn't figure out if the very short icing was going for a "hard" praline kind of texture. I haven't heard how the margarita cupcake went, but I know my sister was looking forward to that one the most. She liked the banana split one, and I forget which other one she tried, except that she nearly passed out in a sugar coma afterwards. I bought a s'mores cupcake all for myself because I knew I would like it, so no one's cut into the one in the box yet. I'll probably leave the others to them, except maybe try the wedding cake, or possibly the champagne out of pure curiosity.
Here's the really tricky thing:
the menu is different every day of the week. Which means that we can't try chocolate cream pie or cherry limeade unless we also go tomorrow. And
this one, which my soul craves, is only on Mondays and Fridays. *shakes fist at heavens*
