[Review] Chandu, the Magician

I had not picked up Chandu the Magician before, as I thought (incorrectly) that it was too much of a juvenile series for me to be interested in. I had listened to other juvenile series in the past, and wasn't inclined to pick another up right away.

Yes, given the CGI, the huge success of "Harry Potter", this would make a good summer replacement series on TV using the 1948-49 story lines starting with the search for Robert Regent. But, Roxor's character would have to be less maniacal, Bob & Betty modernized (can you imagine them as modern day LA teens with cell- phones? And the crystal ball? Nah...

I lke the 15- minute stories, and Vera Oldhams writing was awesome, very much beyond ordinary grade-school listeners. The gong at the end makes me think of the final "tick-tick-tick" at the end of an hour in "24". Good stuff!
