It's been a while since I wanted to post that review. For the last couple of weeks, I've come across various manga chapters and artbooks which really grew on me. So let's start:
♥ First, the manga Fruit Basket. It's steadily getting to its end in Japan and thanks to great fans, I got hold of the latest chapters. And even before that, I bought vol 18 in french and I'm amazed at the work the author put together to deliver such a saga. At first I was a bit wary because I had been told how much darker things were getting, expecting angst to no point and useless psychological torture. But what really was a master move from the author was how she managed in darkening the mood while getting into the action at the same time. Things *do* move on faster and faster, there is no stagnation and that's just great!! I really love this manga. At first it was because of its lightness in mood and now I love it even more because of its depth!! Bravo!!!!
♥ Then there is the wondrous artbook of Death Note. I read through it twice while I had the chance to get in Paris. I hesitated for very very long, turning this page and that, but it was really expensive and in the end, after much torture, reason took over and I left it behind with a very very wrenched heart ;__;
So how about the content? The book is really luxuous, larger than A4 (I wonder if it was not A3!) with a hard cover and a box. Obviously, the first and main part deals with DN, with all the color cover pages we had along the chapters. Of course Light is gorgeous, but L also hd his moments of glory. Plus the size of the book made all those illustrations like posters. Some of them were put on folded larger pages which had blank verso, so you can really take them out to put on your walls but that'd be a pity for the book itself. For those loving the shinigami, there are also numerous pix of them, but they aren't really my thing. Then there was pics of other series, one about samurais and gorgeous warriors (it seems to me it's about a video game or some novels), with characters allying the handsomeness of both Light and Akira from hikago, that's a great feat!!!! Adn to finish, there was pics of hikago, most of them already featured in hikago artbook, but those were mostly the recent ones, so they were really really gorgreous, in big size and some of them were even printed in a special paper, very elegant and to die for ♥ And in bonus, the latest pages featured a "how to" from the mangaka, a tutorial of coloring with markers!!!!! I SO wanted that book!!!!!!! I think next time I see it, I won't be able to resist (unless there is an even more gorgeous item on sale, that is ^^;;; )
♥ And to finish, let's talk about Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, one of the latest CLAMP series!!!!! Those missing X such as I, those deprived of all the gore, angst and bois innuendoes, but also the cuteness, the bravado and the unimitable clamp fashion should really get their hands on that one!!
Lately, we had the arrival of the much waited for Kamui and, last of last, the very very unhoped for Subaru. His arrival was a great shock for me as he did not appear as I thought he would!!! That went went me squeeing and giggling like a brainless fangirl!!!!! Let's hope Clamp really has something interesting and not too traumatic in store for them, because as far as it went, it's mainly been gratuitous fanservice but we so love it!!! Somewhat my japanese is really improving XDDD
And for the newcomers to Clamp works, there are still the very blatant Kurogane and Fai characters. For once both chara are on the same side (unlike kamui/fuuma and seishiro/subaru) but that doesn't get things less messy or less gory *sigh* Would I dare say that's Clamp charm? XDDD
I can't wait and I dread Clamp next move on that bunch of bishonen (and I don't feel less sorry for Sakura/Shaolan, poor kids, Card Captor Sakura was really a piece of cake, let's hope Sakura will have her "zettai daijoubu" back with her by next chapters because she'll definitaly need it!)
