I finally got myself to watch "Heaven and Earth", the movie of Soukyuu no Fafner!

Even though the series was kept alive by the fans community and official website, I had kinda drifted from the anime, so when the OAV and movie were released a few years back, I didn't bother watching them.
However, I recently came across some post on Tumblr about the upcoming tv series and the trailer definitively got my attention (grown-up SouKazu *0* ) ! I went to read some things on the internet, and someone dropped that the movie kinda reset the Fafner world. At this point, I was worried but my curiosity wouldn't leave me alone, and I ended up watching it.
I didn't expect to get caught again in this giant robots VS aliens franchise, as I had never really been into giant robots and their big-explosions battles (SnF was among a few exceptions); I did watch Evangelion when it was released in my country (among the 1st animes in France) and it left me quite confused and dissatisfied (never got to watch beyond the initial tv series). At the time, I wasn't that much into yaoi, and Kaworu really didn't strike me as such a prominent character (I was much too busy trying to make sense of the end of series mess è_é ). However I couldn't help drawing a parallel between Misao and Kaworu from the very moment Misao opened his eyes... to a certain extent, as things rolled ;)
I quite liked the movie, even though I was not 100% concentrated on it (I was supposed to work at the same time ^^;;;; ). I was reminded of how much I loved the series as it has a strong emphasis on the emotions and psychological turmoil of the characters. I didn't expect such blatancy in Soushi and Kazuki relationship though. The scene in the café was ... *__* It was featured in the trailer, it seems to me but it was so mind-numbingly obvious in the movie itself...! Also the way Kazuki just blindingly obeys Soushi injunctions is slightly disturbing, like someone guided by the ghost of his dead-lover. The battles at least had the merit to show he was grounded enough to throw a punch or 2 ;p It was a pity though I didn't go through the initial series plot and subplots, as a few things went way above my head (like that thing about Koyou coming back as a Core, Sakura being in a wheel chair, and this or that character being dead, and so on). I liked the way Misao was handled in his struggle against the Hive Mind of the Festums, and how he protected Soushi since the beginning. I quite didn't get how Soushi came back, but contrary to other anime leaving things unexplained, we *did* have a happy ending for once, with a promise (or hope) for answers in the upcoming tv series (though, with the time gap, it may not), so I'll be happy like that :)

Anyway the movie stuck a crack picture in my head, that I just *had* to put down on paper, and that took proportions I didn't expect, as I decided on a whim to have all costumes and uniforms right. It was unexpectedly fun drawing all the details of the uniforms (these things usually bore me!). And it's been a very long while I had so many people in one pic ;)

From left to right: Soushi, Kazuki and Misao from Soukyuu no Fafner Heaven and Earth, Kaworu and Shinji from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Kaworu > I was the best villain, I was mysterious, had a bath and bed scene with my boyfriend!prey and I finally sacrificed myself by making my boyfriend kill me, so that I would never leave his thoughts and continuously torture him psychologically!

Misao > I was the best villain, I was innocent, starry-eyed and I could merge with my boyfriend!prey if I wanted (that's Ass-immilation for you!).

Kaworu > I piloted a giant robot.

Misao > Me too, and mine was my own creation :p

Kaworu > I was the host of an alien's soul. I had super-powers!

Misao > I *was* an alien, a giant, golden, shiny alien.

Kaworu > My Shinji was solely mine and not devoted to another like your Kazuki :p

Misao > I had tentacles.

(Kazuki blushes, everyone else sweatdrop)

Soushi > Give me back my boyfriend and my clothes, you pervert!
