The move is now complete, in the sense that my possessions are in my new apartment and the Internet works in the place. Still living off of boxes, but this is mainly due to my lack of time to figure out a layout of the apartment. Once I do that, I'll build and set the IKEA stuffs and unpack fully.
First, I need to publicly tank people that helped me move.
mandaryn and
bleego moved two car loads of my stuff while I was at work Wednesday. This killed off most of my 'fit in the car' stuff and even the medium dresser! On Friday,
vilia64 helped me out to run a load from my car. Saturday was the large objects move with Carl, Holland, and Moto pitching in. Lucky for me, we only had to run one round trip with the U-Haul van! We also did another car load, but by then it was mostly finished. Sunday was cleaning up the apartment, Tuesday night was finishing the job. I gave in the keys to the old place today. I'm now officially moved out of San Rafael!
So to all of you folks who helped me move my shit, you are all totally awesome people!
I plan on doing quite a bit of furniture purchases in the following weeks. I got enough things right now to get dirty, but I want to get away from living in plastic bins and cardboard boxes. You know, out of the college days. Besides my existing three dressers,
LAVER table, and two
Fredrik desks, I purchased the following stuff at IKEA in three trips:
•
NOT: Floor uplight; sliver color, white•
BENNO: CD/DVD shelf unit; beech veneer•
BILLY: bookcase; beech veneer The BENNO is set up and holding some of my video game stuff right now. The NOT light first started in my bedroom, but I moved it to the living room as it does a good fill light. I want another NOT, but IKEA seems to be discontinuing the product as they don't have it in stock anymore. The ones without the stupid reading light attachment anyway. I'm waiting to set up BILLY for when I have a solid idea of where it's going, which means a real analysis of the room layout. That's this weekend's project.
What I don't have is a couch/bed thing for the living room. While I was told I was going to get one, the building manager didn't get the memo and through it outside. When I started moving in, it was already damaged in ways I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing. So in the next few weeks or so, more stuff will show up when I get around to it. All in preparation for the real reason I moved: Rock Band 2.
So now I have some photos here of my new apartment from before I moved in. Right now I have all my stuff strewn everywhere. Once I have some assemblage of order I'll give moved-in photos.

For all you San Francisco people, I'm now accepting visitors! Yes the place is a bit of a mess, but it will be really great to have guests over here.
Contact info is always at that link. I'd really like to have this place start feeling like a home, and I can't do that if I don't have my friends over from time to time. :)
