Katie...socks.

There's one thing us Raab children have learned over the years...never tell mom what you like.

Once mom finds out what favorite cereal you frequently eat, she'll buy so much of it that you'll gag upon mention of it. Dad once said, "You like that cereal? Mom is going to call Post and they are just going to come with a truckload and dump it on the driveway." Thus we use the "code sound" of a truck backing up to indicate when mom gets that far away look in her eyes when you mention any object you like.

Pher likes gum? Here's a clothing box full of it.

Kim eats poptarts? Here's the entire price club stash.

Preston needs pajamas? Here's five pairs from Kohls! And while I was there I picked up three vests, four pairs of pants including these camouflage ones, and ten t-shirts. This one has a digger!

Charlie likes to eat? Here's a fully stocked pantry!

And Kate likes fun socks?

*Beep beep beep*

Here's a drawer full, plus an over-stuffed shopping bag (that I have divided into smaller plastic bags for categories).

It is a two day task with work breaks in the middle but I finally complete it this morning. When dad passes me two new pairs of Halloween socks courtesy of moma this week, it prompts me to count every pair I have. Sure most people have a bunch stuffed in a drawyer in no semblance of order but I pretty much know where every pair is. Though sometimes I do forget I have a certain style or color and get annoyed a few days later when I spot them and think they would have matched my outfit better. I love socks so much I wear three pairs a day. Steve on the other hand hates socks and tears them off his feet the minute we're in the house and precedes to leave them scattered around the apartment. There hasn't been one laundry cycle without lone rangers floating about.

99.9% of my socks have been bought by mom, 0% by me, and .1% by my friends (namely, Michelle, who also by the way, loves socks). Are you ready for the total amount?

245.

I own 245 pairs of socks. And that's not counting the ones mom purchased for me to leave down at the house in Virginia (which is a lot) or my thermals in my boot bag or my Bauer ones in my hockey bag. I'm now going to share with you the catagories of the 245 even though mom will see the numbers and buy more for the category in which I'm lacking.

The Break Down:

82   Half socks/summer socks (the ones that come to your ankle) in assorted colors and fun designs
-2 lone rangers that I refuse to accept are really gone and reside in the half socks bag anyway

14  Bedtime socks (can only be worn at night due to the fuzzy nature)
             +2 pairs of toe sox

7   Halloween (One pair that lights up and one that after a few washings doesn't make the spooky sounds anymore. Of course the first time I wear these is during my grad school psych class and I accidentally knock my right leg into the side of the table setting the sound off in the middle of class. Luckily at first no one hears it then everyone goes quiet and for 30 seconds I apologize for my socks as everyone roars with laughter as the sound keeps going.)

2     St. Patrick's Day

3     Easter

1     Valentine's Day

1     Thanksgiving

12 Christmas
           +3 Christmas bedtime only
-1 unfortunate lone ranger (and I liked these ones too!)

16  Flower pattern/Springtime themed

5     Summer "long" socks

3     Doubles (yes, mom bought me the same pair three times. Once she bought the same pair in different colors on two separate occasions but I don't count that as a double.)

13  Winter themed
+3 bedtime winter themed (definitely CANNOT be worn in the summer!)

4   Pilate's only (I like the way my toes point in these. Reminds me of my dancer days.)

74 Miscellaneous pairs (work socks, dress socks, argyle, plaid, every color in the crayola box, animals, silly ones etc. These are the ones that are in the drawer stacked by color.)

Though we all kid with her, my mom is truly the best when it comes to knowing what we all like. She's always taken the time to really understand the little things that make her children happy. Thank you, Moma! I love my new Halloween socks! :-)

we're loud people, ocd is not a problem...okay maybe it is
