Well, the sickness and funk is pretty much over. I am still feeling a little lingering exhaustion, but I am much better than I have been. I made a list of goals and met a few of them today.
I am now enrolled for the international summer school programme here with possible financial assistance from NUI Galway; I was told I had a good chance of getting partial funding of some sort. (though of course, they can never promise anything). Getting my stuff together for this discussion was a process b/c I had to go to the bank for a domestic money draft, make a couple of calls, revise and print letters and forms, etc; before going. However, getting that taken care of really made me feel quite a bit better. Also, I have enrolled for 3 summer credit hours back home to keep my insurance coverage (and so I can get loans in case my money runs low with Ireland having a much stronger economy than the US). And I still had time for the library.
I’ve also almost finalized my plans for Belfast (I’ll be there May 5th-18th). I'm a little bummed that I didn't get free crash-space, but what the fuck can you do? Sometimes shit just doesn't work out the way you want it to. I found a place for 35 pounds a night. (that's about 70 us buck for those of you back home, which is extremely cheap). I could've gotten a hostel for less, but they were all booked up so I had to book a 2 star guesthouse instead. I have almost two full weeks in the Public Records Office to work, with a weekend to do some exploring of the city. I really want to see the murals, which are apparently still up post-peace process. I also want to see Dunluce Castle (belonged to some ancestors, but not anymore) and take in a few museums /historical sites as well. Obviously I’m over a month away from that little trip so in the meantime, I’ll be continuing with my historic newspaper reading with the Irish Political and Radical Newspapers collection here. It’s absolutely lovely, although I have to say that sometimes they do all get a bit redundant so sometimes it gets hard to stay focused. And now that spring is here I can actually do a bit of sight-seeing as well since things will be open. By this, I am referring to daytrips (Aran Islands, Connemara, Cliffs of Moher, etc;).
My mother is also sending me a package with cosmetic supplies (my skin is Super sensitive and even stuff made for sensitive skin sometimes breaks me out so I have to stand by whatever I can find that works) and computer disks (including an XP disk--or rather a copy so that the original isn't harmed in shipping). This should arrive somewhere between Monday and Wednesday as delivery from Arkansas to here is quick. Stuff gets to me more quickly here in Ireland than it did when I lived in Illinois (which is attached to the northeaster corner of Arkansas). It's bizarre, but I like it. Anyway, I'm going to try to accomplish a few more of the goals on my list (especially the "find my library card" task since I really don't know where the hell i Put it and I kind of need it)...
