I lost track at the Discworld reference and disappeared into flailing.

Long Live the People's Republic of Treacle Mine Road!

Night Watch is just the BEST. The funny thing is that about two minutes after I wrote that line, my sister started listening to Les Mis in the other room...

It seemed the only appropriate way to answer the question :)

Non-shippy Sam & Gabriel interaction:

In my head-canon, it's because he over-identifies Sam with Lucifer and is taking out his anger at the whole stupid rebellion thing out on him.

Certainly. But I like to think he's also aware of Sam's runaway status, which means he's taking out his anger at and contempt for himself. He reminds me a little of Giles with Willow in S6 Buffy: too distracted by the analogy with himself to think about the best way to address what Willow's done in bringing Buffy back. (Hint: don't call her stupid.)

That makes sense, too. I also found it kind of interesting that he's got kind of a weird rapport with Dean. It's a fun thing to play with, certainly.

Rapport with Dean auroramama April 13 2012, 20:30:51 UTC
Michael and Lucifer mid-argument turning to Gabriel with remarkably similar outraged, "You mean you're not on MY side?!" glares. Yeah, definitely.

I think I bear Dean a slight grudge for having been so effective. It's one thing to be afraid to stand up to your family, and another, fairly justifiable, thing to be afraid to be annihilated by your family. (In all these years, Sam still hasn't found a bitchface that kills.)

my least favorite that usually combines many of the above, "fledgling" cas

Ugh, yes.

You did so well with the scary otherwordly thing with Cas. Why did every other angel have to go around emoting about not having emotions all the damn time?

This.

I hate fledgling Cas so much that I kind of hated The Song Remains the Same only for the possible-canonization of child angels (Michael's stupid comment about practically raising Lucifer. Thanks, writers, I think without all the anvils we might have missed the parallels.)

I don't know how you raise an incomprehensible wavelength of fiery divine energy, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't involve all the things that fledgling fic involves, lol.

Argh, fledgling!fic, why does it exist? I shouldn't think about it, it brings me rage, which is ridiculous and embarrassing because, really, who cares? And why shouldn't people have their happy little fandom corners?

(but part of me will always be raging that cas the lil'est angel is WRONG and should be KILLED WITH FIRE.)
