I'm a member of Blockbuster Online and have subsequently seen two very very good, very intense movies lately. Last week I got A Mighty Heart where Angelina Jolie beautifully portrays the role of Journalist Daniel Pearl's wife in the days following his kidnapping and eventual death by terrorists in Afghanistan. Incredibly moving. I mean this woman's strength throughout this horrific ordeal is breathtaking and Angelina plays it so well.
Tonight I watched Stop Loss where Ryan Phillippe plays a US Army sergeant who completes his tour in Iraq and returns home to be discharged only to be told he's been stop-lossed; he's being redeployed. The rest of the movie is an emotional roller coaster as he goes AWOL in an attempt to "get this sorted out". It had my crying more than once for the pain of the I'm sure thousands of soldiers who are going through the same difficult situation. 80000+ soldiers have been stop-lossed so far in the stupid war in Iraq. It's tragic, but to see how it affects the families and their comrades....*sigh* I'm still upset.
So, if you're in for a movie night go rent one of these two. Highly highly recommend!!
