General News

So I finally broke down and got a tumblr. I've been posting mostly Who-stuff, but there's a small smattering of other fandoms in there.

On a different note, I noticed something regarding my reading last week: twice in the past couple semesters I've found that the books in my English classes that I enjoy the most happen to be the ones where I picture all the characters as looking like various personae of the Whoniverse. This happened with Frankenstein last year and now The Crucible (which I should actually be writing a paper about right now, but I was having the hardest time focusing earlier so I'm doing this to try and get the writing juices flowing). It might just be a coincidence; I've enjoyed Hamlet and Cyrano de Bergerac in previous English classes with no pre-established visual aids, but I wonder if there is something to helping me through a complex story using the images of characters I'm already familiar with (I know I've done this at least once before: I was picturing characters from Naruto and Fullmetal Alchemist when we were reading Great Expectations in 9th grade). I've been trying to do it with The Spy Who Came In From The Cold (Nine seems to make a nice Leamas), but it doesn't seem to be working. Not sure if this is because the cast seems to keep shifting every few chapters or because the story really isn't interesting me very much.

Anyway.

tamlover, I'm now completely hooked on this song and it's all your fault:

Audio Dramas

So.

Scherzo.

what

I mean they're trapped in bright sensory deprivation universe and there's a giant tube and Eight is suddenly hating on Charley and then there's a creature made of sound and another dead thing that evolves as they eat it and they melt into each other and Paul McGann is Charley's 16-year-old daughter and what

In all seriousness, maybe it was because I was sick and slightly underhydrated, but after I finished listening to that I stood up, got dizzy, and nearly fell over. Now THAT is a true mindfuck.

Also, thanks to omfgitsjo for sending me that. You're awesome. :D

BUT SERIOUSLY I CAN'T EVEN BRAIN

Upcoming Commentaries

I was going to be doing The Myth Makers next, but nentari told me yesterday that it was inspired by an obscure Shakespeare play, so I want to read that first so I can get a little more out of it (besides, I've never read Shakespeare for fun before. But I've learned the hard way that midnight is not the right time to be doing so). Instead, I started Genesis of Tom Baker Robot last night and will try to finish reading Troilus and Cressida before/around the same time I finish watching. This shouldn't be much of a problem, because I don't have that much on my plate class-reading wise at the moment. After those, I'll be devoting the entire rest of this and next week to...drum roll please...The Daleks' Master Plan.

I have officially entered the Realm of the Burninated. It's going to be a tough slog, but hopefully Pat and Jamie will help make it easier.
