...Wait, WHEN did he get locked up in a seaside castle?
As you pointed out, he got arrested at the end of The Daemons. It's never explained onscreen why they decided to throw him in the castle instead of a regular prison, though in the novelization they had the Doctor explain to the judge during the trial that he'd easily walk out from any ordinary prison. (There's also a novel in which he's at another confinement until the castle is ready for him - it's a Doctor-lite book, in which Three and Jo are away living the events from The Curse of Peladon and UNIT ask Ian and Barbara to replace them until they're back.)

Guys, I really don't understand what the Master's strange obsession with children's television is. First Teletubbies, now these aardvarks.
The Teletubbies scene was an intentional tribute to this scene with the Clangers. RTD also made other shout-outs to the classic series by making Simm!Master eat jelly babies (and wearing jackets with red satin inside like his ex used to).

I knew the Sea Devil's costumes were...not what ( ... )

UNIT finds out about Ian and Barbara? This I did not know...

Ah, that would make sense. I noticed the jelly babies when I first saw that scene and had a little squee for recognizing them even though I hadn't seen any Classic episodes yet. The jackets I wouldn't have noticed. When do those show up?

Ah, Jo, I feel like she's such an underrated companion. Also, I think I've reached the point where I should just stop mentioning companions with heels altogether. I have resigned myself to the inevitable.

Terror of the Autons is starting to rank higher on my "serials I need to see sooner rather than later." Thank you for reminding me why the Master is my favorite Who villain ever.

Novels are non-canonical, of course (the origins of the Master in these are contradicted by what we got in New Who), but in this Ian gave up teaching and became a scientific advisor for another government organization, which is why UNIT learned of him; him and Barbara knowing the Doctor was just a coincidence, but it helped make both parties understand each other quicker.

I believe the inside of the jacket can be seen when the Master is greeting the US president at the airport. I remember listening to the podcast commentaries to The Sound of Drums and someone saying that the red satin looked symbolic, and it instantly made me think of Three's opera cape, which also had red satin.

Personally, I love the detail of heels when, as it was the case with Jo, it shows that the companion is so capable she can overcome such a mobility problem. When I did a picspam/tribute to The Curse of Peladon for trap_one, I showed a close-up of her heels as she was climbing a mountain, as it made me think of how awesome she was for doing something trained ( ... )

Three's opera cape is one of my favorite pieces of Doctor-costuming ever. There's just something so intrinsically epic about it. Actually the cover for the second issue of The Forgotten just has him standing dramatically in the background with the cape billowing in the wind.

DELGADO!MASTER. He's my favourite Master c: Although I haven't actually seen any episodes with Ainley...

ALSO JO PILOTING SOME SORT OF LAND-AND-SEA CRAFT.
I don't know where Jo learned to drive a hovercraft, but I don't care. IT'S AWESOME. Jo kicks so much ass. AND I AM SO EXCITED FOR THAT SARAH JANE ADVENTURES EPISODE WITH JO AND ELEVEN. Heeeee.
I mean.
Jo.
And Eleven.
And Sarah Jane.

...oh god, RTD is going to be writing Eleven. Oh dear. No angst please, Rusty. I know you love it, but please don't. Just. Don't turn him into a ball of angst like Ten.
Though it's SJA, there probably won't be any angst.
Still.
OH WELL ITLL BE AMAZING ANYWAY. BECAUSE JO.

I've only seen one Ainley!Master story and he seemed kinda misplaced in that. It felt like the writers were like "we need a villain for this story about a concorde jet that accidentally goes back in time. How 'bout the Master? 'Kay." Though I must say, he wears the Beard of Evil quite well.

AHFLHDSAKLFHDASKLFHSDLAFHSDA THAT EPISODE. I MIGHT EVEN TRY AND CATCH UP ON SJA JUST SO I CAN BE PREPPED FOR THAT. Also ALSO what about the faint slim possibility that Bessie comes back. Or something. IDK, it...it...JO.

I hardly think that RTD will be able to turn Eleven angsty with a couple of SJA episodes. The interactions between Doctor, ex-companion, and ex-companion's predecessor are going to be made of pretty solid win, though.

Oh, I agree on the no angst. Please, please let Jo be happy and please don't go with anything romantic past, present, or future with Jo and the Doctor. I'd prefer she still be happily married, but any kind of happy is okay.

I can't imagine them having Eleven and Jo together and NOT talking about the whole Jo-ran-off-to-marry-a-man-she-described-as-a-younger-Doctor thing, although I hope it won't be the central focus of the plot.

Delgado!Master is the Master of Masters. That's all I can say.

Subtext. The Doctor and Master has it.

RANDOM MENTION OF TURLOUGH! (Sorry. Excitement. One of my favorite companions. FTW.)

Three likes other peoples sandwiches. Wait, that sounds wrong.

Personally, Simm!Master is my favorite, but that's probably because he was my first Master (now THAT sounded wrong) and I feel like The Sound of Drums was just a 45 minute tribute to his awesomeness and also a confirmation that all the slashy rumors I'd heard regarding him and the Doctor were true. That was literally my reaction when I saw the phone scene: "It's true. IT'S ALL TRUE." And my housemates were singing Bad Romance outside. All was right with the world.

I finally put the Black Guardian Trilogy on my Netflix cue. I'm hoping to finally deliver some Turlough sometime in the next month or two (upcoming busy-times, I'm afraid).

There's so much slashy undertones, you'd have to be blind and deaf not to notice.

Enlightenment was my favorite of trilogy. I thought it was great. Random one a boat moment reference comes to my head again though.
