Writer's Block: 9/11

Sep 12, 2011 12:56

In fact, before I headed off to school, I saw WTC7 fall. It's an image seared into my brain.

I wore my USA hooded jacket that day, and I wasn't the only one to wear the faded fashion trend. Class was hard and even the teachers were too distracted to get into any real work. We walked around in a haze of shock. My Year 11 Literature class was supposed to watch a DVD of Pride & Prejudice in the lecture theatre during the morning, but instead the teacher hooked the computer up to a live broadcast of CNN. We spent the lesson discussing the implications, and that lecture theatre remained on the CNN broadcast for the remainder of the day. The room was packed at lunch time, and despite only being able to hold 100 people, it was standing room only with the entire school (Years 11 and 12 only as it was the senior school campus) and all the teachers were in there.

Most of the day to me is a fog, but the memory of waking that morning, and that Literature class, are etched into my memory vividly.
