DIY brass goggles!

woot! i made the goggles, covered the lampshade and added the trim, and made that little pair of eyeglasses on the beaded chain!
enjoy!
i covered the lamp with the sample swatch from ikea, a yard of beaded trim, and a little found ribbon for the top. since i found the lamp and shade (separately) - the total investment was about $2. cunning lamp, though i say so myself.

the glasses were a pair of harry-potter style glasses that broke, a necklace that broke, some wire and a safety pin. i love cheap jewelry for components!

the goggles were actually composed of all stuff i had in my apartment - the brass is, well, brass, the strapping and padding were part of an old leather skirt i got for about a dollar weeks ago, the rings around the lenses are binder rings and the lenses themselves are cut from curved plastic at the top of a soda bottle.

i've listed the steps i took with pics - i hope the cut works ok. i can craft things just fine, it's the ethernet that messes with my head!

ah, majestic (utterly useless) brass bucket i found when i moved in. what's the deal? who leaves scrap metal behind?
after puzzling over how to cut up metal best without tin snips or a hack saw, i used a can opener to cut the bottom out. I used the shapes in the brass goggles tutorial (http://www.brassgoggles.co.uk/brassgoggles/?page_id=133) to rough the shapes out.

i bent the pieces in place like so...
you can see my *actual* safety glasses in the back.

here i've cut the lenses. if i had it to do over, i'd put the lenses in last. got a little epoxy on them with this pair. oh - i also soldered the seams on the oculars.

I wired the straps onto the oculars and glued some padding with strapping on the back. nice and cushy for extended adventure wear and tear.

and here they are! i soldered AND epoxied the nose piece in between, and glued ribbon into the folded strapping to tie at the back of the head. ta-da! and yes - that could very well be a star wars pillow sham in the corner. i am unashamed.
