Mother and wife rant...

Dec 14, 2004 07:32

Had an evening full of argument with Son#1 who can't be made to do his homework even at gunpoint (OK, so I haven't *actually* tried that yet). He says he's getting it all dome at school in break times, which just *can't* be enough time to do it justice. He's never been a liar, but I *don't beleive* he's keeping up adequately. But we never get to ( Read more... )

Hm, that sounds awfully familiar. It's like your talking about my sister. And she has finals now. She has the afternoon off school, but don't think she's about to study. No, she says she has a few free study hours at school, and so she will study there. My mom is very doubtful about it. I'm just curious what her grades are gonna be.

Hey, I recieved a forwarded message from you, about my "Goose bumps" drawing. Thanks for sending it through ^^.

Thanks for the comment. I know, it's so difficult to know exactly what's going on - and you're right, we won't know if it's enough studying or not until the grades come through! By which time, it's a bit late to do anything about it! But I know I was always a night-before-crammer, so who knows? Praps he's inherited that!! Hopefully I'll be reassured when I see his tutor after Xmas.

Ooh... my 2 cents, but it *is* possible to do all your homework in breaks. I've done that for primary and secondary school (uni is different, of course) and its been all okay. Work gets done, grades stay constant. :)

Hee hee :"> I get that way if someone rearranges my books too!

No, your 2 cents is v useful!!! I think you may be right - he may be doing enough after all, I just get frustrated because I don't *see* any work or marks. Am I hypocritical, cos I coasted through school as well?? Oh well - see what 2005 brings!

(off to rearrange my books again...)

I don't know how break times work in the British school systems. Some students in the US have a "study hall" which is basically a free period (about 40 to 50 minutes in length) in which they can study or do homework (and you know that most of them don't). I had students who never had to bring any school books home as they finished their work either in study hall or at the end of the lecture part of class.

It's still a good idea to see what he has and to speak to his teacher. That's the only way to know for sure. I've had parents call and ask the same thing. Ah, that magic age of thirteen through fifteen.

At his school, I don't think they actually offer the facilities to study in breaks, though there is a library that he's been known to lurk about in. But I guess if there are others getting through their work at break time too, perhaps that's a good enough ambience for him to get things done. There's a 'homework club' after school, but he scorned that after the first term!! He may well be bright enough to be keeping up with what he does.

You're right, I just need to be reassured by the teaching staff. Though I find - no offence to teachers!! - that they always feel they have to say 'could do better', even if the child is getting on OK!! Mind you, I could never be a teacher...

Keep you posted *lol*, on the traumas of being a mother of a Teen!
