Wanted: a tiny bit of enthusiasm

Aug 19, 2009 23:04

I can't write - or what I write, I'm less than happy with. Managing to pull out a fic is like pulling teeth, and it's making me frustrated and moody. As though I needed this to be moody. I can do moody on my own.'It' will come back at some point. Maybe. I don't know when, which is the issue because I need my daily or weekly dose of writing. I've ( Read more... )

Ugh, I feel the exact same way! It is so frustrating and annoying :(

*nods* I wonder if I shouldn't go back to writing by hand? At least, then, you can crush the paper sheets and dismissively throw the balls everywhere ;)

I was exactly where you were two weeks ago after a finished two really long stories. I'm a little better, but not by much. I don't care for more that half of what I'm writing these days. Transitions do that I think.

And I linger in fandoms too. I especially have a hard time leaving behind characters I fall in love with.

Transitions are deadly. I'm mostly mono-fandom: I may watch several tv shows, but I'll really write and read fanfics for only one of them. The thing is, as you put it, I linger, and as long as I linger, I can't really get into another tv show. If I don't really get into another tv show, I won't write fics, and... Can you say 'vicious circle'? ;) Add this to the fact that I stumble upon shows that make me want to fic about twice every ten years - which is one of the reasons I linger, BTW...

To make it short: writing fic is becoming harder, and writing original fiction is not an option for now. So, when I say frustratred or freak out, I actually mean I'm scared I can never write again, and now, please excuse me as I'm going to curl up into a ball and cry :-p

Post partum depression ^_^ I hope things keep improving for you because it's an awkward, awkward place to be.

I'm in a weird place with my writing, too. I'm on my way out of my mood. The mood I was in had me hating much of what I wrote. Plus, I could only manage to write bits and pieces of different stories. I couldn't just focus on one. Like you, when I don't write, I get restless. I feel like I should be writing.

I'm not bored by your work. It's hard to let characters go especially when you have ideas that won't let you go. I think most of us in the PB fandom appreciate authors keeping the characters alive especially when a lot of us were less than happy with how things went after S2.

The irritating thing is that I know at least a part of the solution. I just can't manage to implement it: I either need to find another tv show to get all smitten with, or toughen up and try to write original fiction again. I used to keep my options open and write both fan and original fiction in parallel (smart move) but... I stopped.

I could only manage to write bits and pieces of different stories.

That is really annoying. As if not being satisfied with what you manage to write was not enough, you also feel like you won't ever complete anything.

I'm not bored by your work.

*hugs* Each time I post, I hear a virtual "oh gosh, not again. Won't she ever stop?" from my flist and comm members. Which is me projecting my own irritation more than anything else because I highly doubt that people don't know how to use the scrollbars or that they care that much about what I post ^_^

If it helps, I never get bored with your fics, my friend. I'm probably the saddest person in the fandom because I can't help clinging and I won't be moving on for some time yet (if ever!).

But I do get that peeps need to move on to keep writing. I can only hope that you would still visit with our beloved PB characters occasionally.

Maybe you just need the right bunny? I have a warren full of them!! Mostly put there by chanchito_z who can come up with fabulous bunnies but, like you, is struggling to write.

But if there's anything I can do to help you just have to ask! :)

It does help *clings* although I think this sensation is mostly because of irritation at myself. That said, if I do bore people... those little things at the right side of their screen are scrollbars :-p

I think it's part of the issue: for now at least, I don't really want to move on. I want because I go round in circles but at the same time, I don't want (I'm a Pisces, I'm supposed to be indecisive ;)) because I like the characters so much ( ... )

Which I only use to scroll further down the fic all the better to read it!! :)

Ah, Pisces. That explains a lot!! With it's symbol of one little fish swimming one way and the other in the opposite direction I suppose it does denote indecision! But being a water sign myself means I get on well with Pisceans so that's a good thing!

Liking the characters so much means it's hard to let go, isn't it? That's why I'm staying put for now...and I also can't find other characters in other shows that inspire me to write fic. I've tried; I have. But Michael Scofield, beautiful, moral, tortured Michael Scofield is such a hard act to follow.

I do regret a few things, especially not having got into the English-speaking fandom a bit sooner or not having interacted more with some people.Hindsight makes it look easy but making decisions without that 20/20 vision...much more difficult. I'm glad you did see fit to get into the English-speaking ( ... )

Exactly. We poor underwater beings are dragged into opposite directions. It hurts!
I thought Gemini went further in your birth month and that you were one, but indeed, you're a water sign too *high fives you*

Hindsight makes it look easy but making decisions without that 20/20 vision...much more difficult.

lol, this is so true. I'm glad I eventually managed to hop in ;-)

The fandom has been great fun but I suppose now there are only a handful of us who are lingering.

Watching the fandom depopulate is a bit sad, but it was expected, wasn't it? I thought, and hoped, more people would stay around for a little while, though. I'm not going to blame S4 and rant about it again but... I just did blame S4 and rant about it, huh? :-p

Writing gen is, I believe, more difficult than writing het or slash. I think in gen fics you have to find a focus and in het or gen the focus is usually the main pairing.

I usually try to have a 'couple' pairing + theme, even when it's het or slash because I am obssessive and like having some guiding thread. ( ... )

Oh Chérie, how sad that you're feeling this way at the moment! *hugs* Well, I can talk... In fact I know how you feel, I haven't written anything in ages. Can't seem to finish anything, just fumbling around with three or four fics at the same time and none of them feels 'right and round'.

I don't think it's easy to find another fandom out of the blue, one where you feel you can write. Probably the fandom finds you when the time is right ;-)
If memory serves me right I think it was always the time when I felt like 'I don't need another fandom' it just happenend. Do you have any 'candidates' waiting? I'm assuming it won't be THE MENTALIST, right? ;-)

;-) If you're interested, I'm not bored by your fics at all! I love your writings (and also the little peeks into hedgehog world etc. *g*) and a glimpse to the sidebar tells me I have still 4 or 5 fics from you bookmarked - you'll hear from me about them, for sure!

Exactly what you said about fulmbling around with a few fics *nods* Most of the time, I'm rather blah about merely trying, and when I do write, I can't focus long enough to accomplish anything. I finished a series of drabbles about a week ago, and even those drabbles were hellish to complete.
I hope you break your writer's block and at least manage to finish those stories (if you happen to have a couple of Michael/Lincoln among those uncooperative fics, all ther better *g*). It's frustratig when WIP pile up and taunt you ( ... )
