No, it wasn't bad, but it started off with a continuation of the couple in this one and I didn't like what happened much. You can find it easily on You Tube, just take a look at the first bit of it and you will see what I mean.
I remember when both of these first came out - me and my friends were huge A-Ha fans - and our walls were covered with posters of them. I have had the original song and video bookmarked at You Tube for ages - for when I am feeling all nostalgic for the 80s.
And yes, the artwork and creativity of this video is wonderful. Amidst a lot of very boring videos I love this one for its uniqueness.
I was reminded of it in some ways of the original video of The One and Only by Chesney Hawkes. You may not have had that one in the US. It was a number one over here, although I believe it was the singer's only hit. The original video was pulled because it contained clips from the film it was part of the soundtrack of, and there was some sort of dispute. But it had a similar premise, the merging of reality and fantasy, but in that case it was a cinema screen rather than a magazine.
I always felt that this early 90s video may have been copied from A-Ha's Take on Me to a certain extent.
Yeah, I looked at the video for "The Sun Always Shines on TV" and see what you mean - no happy ending. :(
As I was looking for that video, I came across the video for "The Living Daylights" from the Bond film of the same name. I remember seeing that on TV not too long ago and being struck by the irony of Bond teaming up with the mujahadin of Afghanistan (precursor to the modern Al-Quaeda) against the USSR. That was released in 1987 and no one could have guessed where it would end up today...
I never had a-ha posters, etc, but I liked Hunting High and Low well enough to get it on CD several years ago and I have a couple of the songs from that album on my iPod. :)
I just try to put that one out of my mind when I see the Take on Me video. I much prefer happy endings.
I don't think I have ever seen the video for The Living Daylights, and only saw the film once. I am not a huge Bond fan, although my father has the whole lot on video/DVD. It is sometimes strange looking at the politics of those and comparing them to the modern day. How things change...
I don't have any of A-Ha's albums on CD, although I used to have them on cassette. Most of my favourite songs from them I have on various compilation albums containing a variety of 80s tracks. I think the only one I don't have that I would like is the title track of Hunting High and Low.
