Friday started off with me waking up early and letting Steve sleep in so he can catch up on some sleep--our usual routine. We went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast since we hadnt been there in a looong time--probably not since the day he came back from Iraq? Anyway, after breakfast, we went to see Hancock, per Steve's request. I thought the movie was dumb, but he liked it...lol. It was definitely not what I expected at all.
Half way into the movie, Steve gets a call from one of his soldiers. Apparently she was in Round Rock and needed a ride back to Fort Hood? Steve was confused so he said he'd be there in an hour and came back to the movie. From what she described, it sounded like she was in his plaza right past the Round Rock city line and was in Hutto. So, we drove around, and checked a restaurant that Steve thought she was at. No luck. We went back to our house since Steve had a 2pm meeting with our subdivision manager or something. Steve is the neighborhood's safety committee chair person and is in charge of the subdivision's set up of National Night Out happening in Aug so we were being shown where the tables, chairs, canopies, set up, etc.
Then the soldier calls again with more specifics of where she was and it was in the same plaza in which where we were. I was confused to as why she was down here, how she got down here and why she needed a ride? So, after our meeting, we drive back and Steve talks with her. She was half dressed in her uniform which was weird because they were released early on Thurs and Steve last saw her wearing civilian clothes. When he comes back, he says she's going to follow us back to our house and take a nap because she felt uncomfortable driving back to Fort Hood (why she called saying she needed a ride back? I have no idea).
But instead, they end up talking in our living room. I did chores and went upstairs to give them some privacy, but from what I could hear, she drove down here SPECIFICALLY looking for our house to talk with Steve. He told her she could have seen him in his office. The whole thing was really sketch and she's the same soldier that went AWOL a few weeks ago. I guess she has some financial troubles so Steve's going to try and have her talk with the right people once they go back to work on Monday. Oi!
After that very strange instance, Steve took a nap while I took care of some house work. When he woke up, we went to Thai Spoon since I was really craving something with lemongrass, but unfortunately, there was only ONE thing that had it! Steve ordered my usual fav, green chicken curry, so I ate some of his after my meal. Then we went to Walmart pick up a game to play--Boggle! I totally kicked his butt :o) He can have Scrabble as long as I'm Boggle master!
Saturday, I let Steve sleep in again. By the time he woke up and I got ready, it was lunch time! We went to Sunflower, a Vietnamese restaurant, so I could once again fulfill my lemongrass craving. I specifically ordered lemongrass chicken, but it only had a very, very subtle taste. But it was still good and we hadn't been there in a long time :o) Afterwards, we made our way to San Marcos so we could visit the
Aquarena Center!
Aquarena Center is basically part of Texas State Univ. and offers glass bottom boat rides of the springs and basically educate you about them. The water is so clear that even some flowers bloom underwater. They even have a small aquarium where they house some of the spring's endangered species like the blind salamander. It was a pretty neat place :o)
pretty dragonfly
waiting to get on the boat--the water is a pretty aquamarine color!
the glass bottom boat
do you see what I see?
those lil' circles are the springs of water flowing into here
we also saw a diver, lots of fish and a turtle (though there were tons of them sunbathing)
like right here!
and here.
some migratory birds
we learned a lot--like 100% of San Antonio's water comes from aquifers
Isnt the water so pretty? Reminds me of lakes made from glaciers--they're bluish/green like this.
After the boat ride, we went back to the aquarium for feeding time!
This is the blind salamander on the endangered species list.
And these guys...they'd wiggle in between those glass beads you usually see in flower pots or fish tanks.
Now onto the wetlands boardwalk!
These were the flowers that would grow underwater
pretty bird
Steve is always reading whereas I'm trying to look for the fish that made the bubbles or splashed the water
more basking turtles
overall, lots of fun :o)
After coming home, Steve took a 2 hour nap. When he finally woke up, we went to check out Austin's Pizza since it was voted "Best Pizza in Austin" from the Chronicle. I thought it was ok since I didnt like the crust much. I MUCH prefer hand-tossed more, but Steve liked it. We shared a Greek salad and then went to meet up with Ken & Veronica to see The Dark Knight. Man, that movie was LOOOOOOONG! Almost 3 hours. It was pretty good though! The only Batman movie I ever saw was the one with Michelle Pfiefer as Cat Woman, but Steve says the latest ones with Christian Bale have been very dark.
About half way through the movie, my airways felt constricted and I got really phelmy. It was really weird and annoying--I'd cough during the movie to clear my lungs and I felt like crap. I dont know if it was allergies, the nasty air in the movies or an allergic reaction to something I ate, but when I got home, I wanted to go straight to bed. Steve took care of me though and I feel much better now.
Steve made french toast this morning for breakfast and we're going to go to the Asian supermarket so I can get the ingredients to make Tom Kha soup! It's Steve's fav thai soup (though I like Tom Yum better) and when I was reading the ingredients, I wasnt going to find it all at HEB...lol. It should be interesting!
