Twice now when shopping for clothes I have been approached by other shoppers and asked questions about the stock or the store. I guess people think I work in the shops. This amuses me a great deal.

I find the difference for me is accessories. If I wear a scarf and the right shoes, or a statement necklace, and my hair is done, even my jeans and casual top look put together "on purpose." Of course today I am wearing old jean shorts and a turquoise top with my hair scraped back!

Thru grad school I was definitely only wearing whatever was clean on top of the pile. But now I work in the Loop. So not only do my coworkers see me, but the other people who take my train, all the people at Union Station, and the other people walking around the Loop whether workers or tourists. So that pushes me to actually make some effort daily.

Now I find I think about what is clean and available and I put combinations together in my head in advance so I don't have to struggle in the mornings and miss my train.
