Had to make an update to my dad's resume, and was hoping I had a backup of it somewhere. Naturally, I didn't, so I had to type the whole damn thing over. (And I think I actually yelled at MS Word in the process. Heh, I'm starting to lose it.) But I did find an old word document from serveral years ago, that I rather enjoyed.
Thunder echoed in the distance as raindrops gently fell upon the steamy walkways outside this small hut in the city of Cabilis. A quiet noise emerged from the nest of eggs that sat in the corner near the window. It went unnoticed it at first, but it soon emerged from the silence again. Xitelras quickly perked up and turned her attention to the nest. One of her broodlings was about to emerge from it's egg! After a few moments, a young Iksar poked it's snout from the protective egg he had spent so long inside of. Xitelras quickly lifted the small reptile form his shattered egg and wrapped him inside of a blanket made from the hide of a froglok. He quietly hissed in her arms as Xitelras smiled to herself. "I shall name you Xileksis, after your grandfather." she quietly said. The thunder echoed again as Xitelras returned to her seat, carefully holding her firstborn.
"I do not see the point to this exercise, master!" Xileksis blurted out.
"That, my young student, IS the point of this exercise! It is to teach you patience, and through that patience you learn discipline!" Master Glox replied "Now, dust yourself off and try again"
Xileksis sighed to himself and quickly climbed the tall post in the yard of the Court of Pain. With a quick deft movement he placed his hands on the post which he stood upon, and lifted hit legs straight into the air, then bending at the knees and allowing his legs to flop down and face the ground.
"Now," Master Glox said "stay there."
"But..." Xileksis started to say and was quickly interruped by a mildly annoyed hiss from Master Glox. Xileksis remained silent.
He closed his eyes and tried to focus his concentration onto what he was doing, but soon found he was not as agile as he hoped, and once again, came tumbling onto the courtyard floor below him.
Master Glox chuckled to himself as he looked up at the pole and back down to his student with a small grin on his face
"Patience and determination" the young Iksar said to himself as he once again sighed and scurried up the post
