Until today, I have ridden in a taxi once....December 1963-San Francisco, CA. Prices have changed!!! This morning, Richard had two procedures done at Madigan Army Hospital. Since the Dr's had to put him "out" he couldn't drive home afterwords. I don't drive due to poor vision, so that meant we had to use a taxi, round trip. The distance from our house to Madigan is exactly 9.5 miles. (Medical mileage is tax deductible...so we got the mileage for all the various medical trips we take.) $25 one way, including tip. $50 round trip!!! Good grief, that's a weeks worth of groceries! But, it had to be done...there was no one to drive us. Everybody works.
Went to a birthday party yesterday. Friends of ours, Diana and Bill, host a Russian high school foreign exchange student each year. A student they had a few years ago has come back to the US of A to attend Tacoma Community College. This is her second year. It was her birthday. Had a nice time...lots of giggly foreign exchange students. Lots of different languages. They all spoke excellent English. After all these years, my German is now non-existent. I really admire bilingual people. The cake was unusual: dark with fruit and nuts in it. Vanilla and strawberry ice cream. D&B have 19 cats. One cat kept leaping upon the coffee table and tried to bury her face in a big bowl of Ranch Dressing potato chips. Something about those chips really turned her on. People kept removing the cat and/or the bowl. Somehow, the bowl wound up on my lap, while I fended off the cat. So of course, I kept munching. Richard finally got up and came over and removed the bowl. Then the cat followed him. Sat staring at him...watching every bite he took. A good time was had by all. (Except the cat.)
