I guess this week has been my break from LJ! I got a life, and got out of the house. LOL.
Started work at the library on Tuesday, then worked Weds, Thurs, and Fri. My title is Page, which no one can explain to me, the real title should be library aid. It is the lowest point on the library totem pole. I have told myself you can benefit from starting at the bottom and working your way up. And it's potomac, which is way more laid back than alexandria and arlington. No drug tests! There are a total of 8 pages, jennipher is 19, and the rest are like 50 plus retired people. I don't enjoy that we mostly work as a team. I am much happier dividing labor.
This week I learned most of my job. My favorite thing to do is when the new magazines come in I log them into the system then put them in the binders.
I know, excting right? This is why people don't understand library school. You don't need a master's degree to shelve books. But in school we are learning methods, and theories, not necessarily how to stamp cards and scan barcodes.
Public libraries are how people in my profession serve the community. There are so many other kinds of libraries. It's all about the storage of information.
I am so much happier now then I was when I was working on my stupid PhD in philosophy. I learned a lot from my Plato class, though.
It is snowing now. I'm not going anywhere today, and I am so happy to be inside relaxing.
