Close to Fall / Close of Summer Thoughts

Aug 13, 2008 22:32

It's been a while since I've posted.  While summer is the favorite time of the year for so many, I like the cooler season.  I'm the opposite of bears, I tend to hibernate in the summer. But as fall is fast approaching, it feels wonderful and I can stretch out and relax.

A quick synopsis of what I've learned and thought about while away:

1. Walking is essential for writing and life.  It clears my mind and connects me with my surroundings. And a pedometer makes it all the better.  Working up to 15,000 steps a day this week.

2. Clutter: 15 minutes a day does work.  I'm uncovering my hibernation clutter and finding my furniture and home ARE still intact and quite nice.  Also adding some touches to it for this season (See #5).

3. Writing:  I love my main character, Angela.  Though I've been away from posting on LJ, I've kept up with writing a chapter every two weeks, and my characters are complex people I want to spend time with.  I don't have a deadline set, otherwise I'll pick up the pace and scatter everything around.  However,  I'm going to a DC suburb to spend time in my MC's neighborhood inspired by Cynthia Lord's blog today on the details of a sense of place.

4. Had some losses this summer, many of us have, and it just makes me gravitate closer to the people I love and the things that make me content.  A bit of reshuffling and slowing down.

5.  And last,  I created a webpage on Martha Stewart's website and I have to say, her daily recipes, clutter control, health and craft projects have kept things interesting.  Part of staying focused on the present and using my hands and other senses.

I've read many of the entries and I'm sorry I haven't commented on very many of them.  You've all been in my thoughts.  But as I stretch out, take in the fall-like air and enjoy the wind, scattering leaves, and evenings and mornings outside, I'll be slowly coming back and being a part of the communites here.

Peace,
Citycat
