*blows in on a week-old ocean breeze*

Hey all, I'm back! Whew, that outage was a little longer than I expected it to be, but... between battling work, jet lag, and a mysterious case of food poisoning, I just didn't feel like doing much this past week! But, I'd say I'm basically operating at 100% again, and you know what?

Today was a really good day.

For the very first time in our lives, my husband and I are going to do Christmas completely by ourselves. Which is a little sad, I'll admit. But it also means that for the first time in our lives, we feel justified enough to get a Christmas tree! So we did that today: we drove out to a nearby farm, picked out a great-looking tree (a 6 ft tall Colorado Blue Spruce that now goes by the name of Prickles because... ooh, it's a bit spiny!) and trucked it on home. But the best part? THE FARM WAS AN ACTUAL FARM. Just a small one (4 acres), but the woman who owns it keeps a few cows, a draft horse, some chickens, sheep and goats! I learned two things:

1. Despite everything I have ever wanted to believe, sheep are not actually very cuddly. They are greasy. And oily. And it's a dark, really unattractive-looking oil too: my fingertips were stained brown after just a few seconds' contact with its head. Luckily it washes off easily, but now I know: sheep are actually kind of gross to touch. Thanks husband, you knew all along, but now at last I have proof-- I will listen to you next time! Also, I got licked by a cow (on the hand!). That was also sort of gross :P

2. On the other hand, GOATS ARE LEGITIMATELY ADORABLE. At least, these two were. They were 4H rejects (in that they were raised "for market" by this woman's kids, but when it came time to sell the goats they had grown too attached to them, so they stayed in the family as barnyard pets), and they were politely interested in people, nice to touch, were perfectly content to get pets and scratches even though we didn't have any food on us, and one even WAGGED HIS TAIL when I came up to him the second time-- like a gosh-darn dog! I was so surprised!! I've actually read a little about raising goats (...ehehe) and I heard you're not supposed to coddle or "overhandle" them when they're little or they start treating you like one of the herd and will headbutt you a lot, but these goats were really gentle and sweet and well-behaved so... I guess they were raised well! After today, I just... AUUUUUGH! I WANT A GOAT! For real, now! *clutches face, rolls around on the floor* Next year (if we do this next year), we're totally bringing food for those two!

So that was my farmyard adventure. And then we bought Christmas lights, and decorated our FIRST EVER CHRISTMAS TREEEEEE!

...and then I put Digimon ornaments on it.

Tai and Gabubu!

Matt's over there on the right. And after my experience today, I might have to reconsider that sheep ornament, but... oh, who am I kidding. Cartoon sheep are still adorable!

Look out Joe! That robot's coming for you! O_o
I also put pictures on my Tumblr. Yes, I drank the poison, and it is indeed delicious. But I'm still planning on hanging out here. For better or worse, I have a really hard time letting go of the familiar XD

Also, while we were out n' about, we found "Aladdin" at Costco. That might actually be my favorite of the Disney Rennaissance films, and it's also the one that we have never actually owned. THAT PROBLEM IS NOW FIXED. I'm way too attached to Iago as a character. Somehow, animal sidekicks with a general sense of misanthropy are like, THE BEST. And we watched it already. Because it is awesome.

Oh, and ALSO also! I looked really freakin' cute today, if I do say so myself UwU

So yes! The moral of the story is I am back, and I will be Responding To Things very shortly. But I had to take some time out to report what a good mood I'm in. I'm just really, really happy right now! X3
