Some sort of end-of-year update

Dec 21, 2013 15:41

Wow, 2013 is almost over? That's sort of amazing.

Haven't knocked everything off of my to-do list from the beginning of the month yet, but going through it again, I've actually made more progress than I thought I had. My trip is set (it had better be; I leave next week!), but I made the last-minute decision to get an international drivers permit (!?!!), so I'm going to try to take care of that on Monday. I know where I'm going (or, rather, not going) in January, but otherwise next year's travel is still TBD-- rats. Hanging out with my sister is on hold until she has some spare time, but I did put together an awesome thumb drive filled with lots of Digimon stuffs, so I'm excited about giving that to her. Definitely been wearing fun wintery socks, and I've been really enjoying this delicious tea-- spicy but sweet and very aromatic, all things I approve of. Presents have been obtained-- I think I did pretty well-- plus I got to make stuff, which is always fun! I haven't been going to the gym (oops), but dance classes are back on, so that's at least something! I've also been trying to find the mouse that has taken up residence in my apartment. She moved in about a week and a half ago, and I'm pretty sure she's living under the washer/dryer. She's fairly crafty and cautious, it seems-- I have yet to actually see her. What worries me is that I haven't even heard her for a few days now. I hope she's off fulfilling her mousy destiny somewhere else, or else that she'll make an appearance sometime soon. I've done a catch-and-release of one mouse before, hopefully I can do it again (I'm open to non-lethal methods of luring and capture, if anyone has any suggestions)!

Also, I can't stop listening to these two Venture Bros. Christmas songs. Henchman 24's warble is so great. This show needs image songs, stat XD

My Amazon Prime membership expires the middle of next month. I will miss the two-day shipping, but otherwise, I can't say I'll be that sad to see it go. In the meantime, I've been trying to knock out a few shows off my watchlist that aren't necessarily available on the Netflix. I've been enjoying "Daria"-- just finished season 4-- it was humming along in its sardonic way, but then all of a sudden, TEEN DRAMA started happening, so we'll see how season 5 is. "Persepolis" was really good, and the animation was very lovely and fluid. I think the first season of "Legend of Korra" became Prime-eligible recently, but after everything I've heard about it, I don't think I have any desire to finish it (I did finally see ATLA all the way through, however, and OMG FEEEEEELS). I also ended up watching a few classic horror movies-- "The Exorcist", "Poltergeist",  and "Carrie"-- mostly out of morbid curiosity, because mere mention of such movies (and the likes of "Gremlins" and "Beetlejuice," etc, etc) scared me beyond all reason when I was younger (like, I didn't even watch "Ghostbusters" all the way through until I was 17, OK?). But, now that I've seen these three, I can't say I was actually missing all that much-- "Carrie" was just plain SAD, "Poltergeist" was pretty dumb, and "The Exorcist" didn't really make a lot of sense (possessed because of... Ouija... board....? Demon... in necklace??)-- although the demon was apparently named Pazuzu, which really just makes me think of Futurama and then I get the insatiable urge to yell it out in a terrible Professor Farnsworth impression. So um, there's that. Whatever. I think it's safe to say that horror movies from the 70's and 80's aren't my thing, nor are any others, to be honest.

Looking back, this year has been a bit of a mixed bag, I suppose. Progress in some areas of personal development, regression/maintaining the status quo in others. Although, I will say I've been super-happy keeping this journal, and that's really down to you guys. Thanks for being here, and for sharing slices of your life with me! Next year, I really want focus on being more open and honest with people (good heavens I'm such a shy little introvert), and build up my confidence in regards to expressing opinions in public. I also want to give my day-to-day life a bit more structure and organization. I haven't been holding on to any semblance of a routine lately, and that hasn't done me any favors in terms of productivity or overall well-being. Ideally, I would like to strike a balance between keeping on top of all of those little necessities (chores, exercise), and setting aside specific time for doing the things I really want to do. This also means cutting down my aimless Internet surfing!

Anyway, talk to you next year-- take care of yourselves, my dears!
