Something about Final Crisis worries me now.

Since when? Last I knew, Scott Free was a fairly respected member of the superhero community. All right, yes, he was part of the JLI, but if the Creeper can be seen as a "real" cape, then so can Scott. And considering his wife was one of the Birds of Prey, you know he's got at least the Bat-family's respect.
In his first major tease, Morrison said, "Batman isn't coming back from it. Batman, as we know him, is not coming back from it."
I call bullshit on this. Less than a year ago, it came out that Morrison's plans to kill off Bruce Wayne and have Tim take over the Batman role were vetoed by Time Warner management, who feel that Warner Bros. has too big a stake in Batman being Bruce Wayne to permit a change there.
"So I thought if I was doing a thing about the New Gods, he'd be an interesting guy to bring back because I needed a masked mystery man to start a new recruitment drive for the Secret Society of Supervillains, because they become almost a terrorist sect. Under Libra's guidance, they start doing quite bad things, even to superheroes' wives and families, crossing the line."
Oh, god, it's Identity Crisis all over again. And people call him a CREATIVE GENIUS when he can't even make a huge world-threatening situation like APOKALIPS KILLING OFF THE RESIDENTS OF NEW GENESIS AND ATTACKING EARTH "big" enough without having to throw in gratuitous attacks on the capes' families, who are supposedly protected by secret identities and nigh-unbreakable security systems, anyway?
"Geoff [Johns] and I are doing one of the specials together. You are going to see one particular character on the streets, on the ground during the occupation. Just to see what it's like for ordinary people during the evil gods takeover. So that's the one Geoff and I am going to be doing. But I can't tell you the character yet, although he is a current member of the Justice League."
Oh, gee, Grant, I'm sure I have NO *coughROYcough* clue who *coughROYcough* on the current *coughROYcough* JL roster would qualify as *coughROYcough* an "ordinary person" *coughROYcough* in the DCU. It's not like *coughROYcough* there's only ONE *coughROYcough* current JL member who's not a metahuman *coughROYcough* or otherwise outfitted with superpowers *coughROYcough*.

The Mister Miracle from Seven Soldiers was Shiloh Norman, not Scott Free, who as part of the New Gods is probably dead already or something. And Shiloh had a nervous breakdown in that series.

Actually, that was just a rumor. From what I read, Morrison planned some DC heroes to replace momentarily the New Gods and have them embody the concepts they represent. From that, after a game of telephone, people ended up thinking Grant was going to kill Batman and make him ascend into New-Godhood.

Grant has done more than enough genius works to deserve the title, even if he fails once in a while. The description does sound bad, but I'll save my complains for when it actually happens.

Well, not necessarily. It can be any of the JLAers looking at ordinary people on the street.

While you're right about Morrison's plan (I admittedly super-simplified the situation), apparently the rumors got big enough that some Time Warner execs actually did send down the edict that Batman Will Always Be Bruce Wayne. I wish I could give you a reference, but I heard about it in... probably the Casstoons thread.
Personally, I think there's a bit too much stock being put in the creativity of various writers these days; I keep seeing massive worship for various writers who never struck me as being all that "genius." I wonder if maybe people will look back on the 00s sort of like how we look back on the 90s, but with respect to writing instead of art--cults of personality being formed around "superstar" writers who may or may not actually be good, but who get worshiped as gods by their fans and thus can get away with murder.
Not to mention that I'm now of the cynical opinion that comic books--particularly at DC--are written more by the editors than the writers today; these days, it seems like the editors dictate the stories to the writers, who then have to fashion scripts for them. I wouldn't entirely be surprised if that even happens to Morrison on this one...

But Darkseid isn't like some cat burglar, i think he could get around the heroes security systems and secret identities-especially when he has gotten a huge power upgrade, and he was already a god as it is.
