BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
So I'd seen a couple episodes of Battlestar Galactica before and liked them, but never really got into it for a number of different reasons/general laziness. However, it being summer, I decided that now would be as good a time as any to give it a shot. So I watched the 3-hour pilot tonight.
OH MY GOD IT WAS FUCKING INCREDIBLE.
Okay, okay, first of all: seriously. How is this show not a fucking sci-fi classic? Like, as far as I can tell it's basically just a cult-favorite and not even as well-known as Firefly, but this shit is... honestly, better than any sci-fi show I've ever seen. Judging purely from the pilot, of course, but I doubt it suddenly gets a whole lot worse in the rest of the series, so... how is this shit not better-known?
I don't know why, but the first moment I really knew this show was different was the first battle with the Cylons, because I realized that was the first time I have ever really been nervous while watching a space battle. Space battles are always cool and all, but most of the time they are just that, cool without actually being scary because they're a little too difficult to really feel in your bones when it's something so abstract for us as people who've never left our planet. But this episode had battles that actually made me feel tense. That's pretty neat.
Anyway, this show rocked my socks. Adama is pretty bamf, Roslin is even bamfer, Apollo is very cute and I'm glad he didn't actually die. Starbuck's perhaps a touch too cocky for my taste but endearing nonetheless. I've heard that a lot of people hate Duella and uh, I can see why. Girl, Roslin's assistant looks about fifteen. Back off that shit.
Anyway, I'm a little sad I didn't get into this while it was still airing. I'm sure I'll enjoy the rest of it, but I just can't really fall in love with a fandom that's practically dead. I mean, I'm sure there are still fans about but since the show isn't still running it wouldn't be the same as being involved in a show that's still on the air.
The only thing missing is that there wasn't any gay. Does it get gay at all? Please tell me it gets gay. Please tell me Apollo is involved. ...That never happens, does it?
