Weather, you are not helping
I'm having a hard time with the fact that I have only been back from Spring Break for a week. It honestly feels like it's been at least a month.
So after cutting Carly's hair yesterday, I went and saw Travesties, which was very fun. I would have benefited from reading it beforehand, along with The Importance of being Earnest, and all the other stuff Stoppard references. The set was beautiful and it was very well cast--Enrico was an extravagantly kickass Tristan Tzara, the London Programs' own Laura Dodd was a lovely Gwendolyn, and Alex was a downright heartwarming Lenin. After that I did a superstealthy bathroom change and attended Drag Ball as a ninja.
The thing I have come to understand about Drag Ball is that it's like any other social venture in that you get out of it what you put into it. I didn't have a great time last year--I didn't really understand the layout of the event, and my outfit made me feel kind of silly. The ninja costume was an absolutely last-minute idea, but it reflects a lot about what's going on in my head. Simply wearing a mask was a big part of it. There's something very sexy about being anonymous in a building full of strange, beautiful people. (Although, for some reason, all my friends knew who I was with just my eyes visible.) Thanks to Carly for the ride to Elyria to get the gear, and Antonio for lending me a black shirt and advice on how to bind my hands.
So that was fun. On my plate these days (because really, what's an update without some bitching?):
- Declare the freaking art major
- Figure out a minor
- Comic book for OHDB
- Secret other art project (watch the sidewalks)
- Japanese paper on reactions to and versions of WWII designed for children (like Barefoot Gen and Pica-don, which I can't find anywhere)
- Psych exam on Thursday
- Art portfolio and "art historical allusion" project
- Taiko performance at TGIF this week (come watch me hit things! The Exco will be opening for Icho Daiko, the Cleveland dojo, who are much much better than us.)
- O-freaking-Circus (what day is the performance? I need to know this)
- big huge Taiko performance on May 7th (that's too far away to be worried about, but I want to start plugging now)
- Make it to June
