So today I accepted a job offer from
http://www.textbroker.com. They're a German company that matches people who need stuff written with writers. The idea was launched from a programmer who was doing search engine optimization. One thing that Google looks at is the text and keywords on a page. The more often your keywords show up, the higher you rank. So he was looking for someone to write some standard text for him. Somehow, that grew into a database of writers, with a standard pricing structure based on article quality. Anyone can be an author for hire! For companies or individuals who need stuff written, it's a great way to balance quality and price.
They've since expanded into English and decided to base their English operations in the US (most demand and business-friendly climate), and chose Nevada due to temperature. They need someone to review the articles for quality (misspellings, grammar, structure, poignancy, etc.) and run things over here, take care of W-9s, etc. That's me. I'm excited to see it grow and see what happens. I've got some neat ideas on marketing, additional services we could offer, and ways to promote the website.
If everything works out right, this just might be the perfect combination of my language, marketing and managerial skills!
