DS9 Rewatch: 2.9 - 2.13

Apr 07, 2012 17:38

Spoiler warning: assumes knowledge of all seasons.

2.9 - Second Sight

Plot: Sisko meets a women in red.

"The thing about dreams is, if you talk about them they go away faster."

"Sometimes it just feels good to run."

Wow, lots of foreshadowing in this episode.

If the terraformer need a protective suit to be in that room then why don't they have a double door system to protect people when he leaves?

I think that Odo's more fun when he's reacting to others then in his own storylines. I'm also strongly reminded of the episode when Odo sought out a bemused Sisko for romantic advice.

I don't remember enjoying this episode this much the first time around, but the first half is hilarious.

And now with the reveal of she's really Nadir we get all serious.

The whole conversation with the senior staff is funny, but I find Bashir and O'Brien's reactions to the terraformer mostly amusing. Bashir likes him. Bashir may be a huge braggart, but he's never put off by that quality in others. O'Brien is so non-plussed that the doesn't even pretend to pander to him.

Is there no doctor on this ship?

Poor Sisko. When does Cassidy show up?

2.10 - Sanctuary

Plot: Refugees come through the wormhole and want to settle on Bajor.

And now the random Ferengi waiter is where Pel's shirt.

Watching Quark and Kira try to 'not over react' to each other is funny.

Apparently DS9 can hold 7000 people.

Second Dominion reference. This time they're explicate described as a conquering force.

Nog's in Odo's office so often that he knows the most wanted list enough to notice a new addition.

I have to say, Protective Uncle Mode is one of my favorite versions of Quark. We're introduced it in "Emissary" and this isn't the last time we see it. One of my favorite moments for Quark in this whole series is a moment like this in a later season. I'm sure I'll talk about it more when I get there.

I don't remember that they ever talked about the fact that Changlings don't have a sex, but do they have gender? We're really only familiar with Odo and the Female Changling (did she ever get a name?) on a long term basis. They both have solid forms - along with sexes - they that use as a standard model when they're in solid form. Did they ever talk about why Odo presents himself as an older man? Did Odo choose to be male or did male just feel right? Seems like a missed opportunity that this was never discussed.

2.11 - Rivals

Plot: Prince Humperdink a rival for Quark arrives on the station.

Bashir recognizes a bad social moment. Progress!

Bashir and O'Brien are still not friends, but Bashir does admit to admiring O'Brien. This makes sense.

Way too much of this episode is concentrated on the badguy guest star. I don't find it at all interesting.

Is the lady from the beginning also a con-artist? I don't remember, but that would be awesome.

There's one question that Star Trek never answered: how do Starfleet officers even have money to spend?

Yup, she was a con-artist lady.

Wait, we never finish Bashir and O'Brien's racketball match?

2.12 - The Alternate

Plot: Dr. Mora arrives on the station and Odo is non too pleases.

How does Quark stay out of jail?

Odo says that he has a hobby of studying humanoid death rituals. I wonder if he's just saying it as an excuse for some Quark related banter. My guess is that he does.

Conformation that Odo can perceive his surroundings regardless of him form. Odo describes it as 'seeing', but admits that it's only for simplicity.

Sisko describes his father getting sick and says 'at the end'. I guess they forgot about that when they introduced Joseph later.

Apparently runabouts got an upgrade because now they can beam four up at a time.

I find it interesting how O'Brien willingly and knowingly puts himself in dangerous situations regardless of the fact that he has a wife and kid. "Don't tell Keiko I did this," he jokes in this episode, but this is hardly the last time this is mentioned.

In this episode they say that Odo has a sixteen our regen cycle.

I know that Mora is trying to connect with Odo and that he thinks of him as a person, but he still refers to the attacker as 'it' even once we know the attacker is Odo on drugs. I didn't keep specific track, but the officers don't do the same.

2.13 - Armageddon Game

Plot: O'Brien and Bashir help two races rid their arsenals of bio weapons.

I like this episode, but apparently I didn't have much to say about.

First scene and O'Brien is drinking coffee - or at least something out of a mug. It doesn't say what time it is though.

Bashir is modest! And he looks really awkward when O'Brien insists that Bashir gets most of the credit.

I love the fact that they don't forget that O'Brien used to be a soldier. I'll have to track the progress of this progression.

I love how often I find that I'll make a note of something interesting and a few episodes later it's mentioned again, sometimes in more detail. Bashir believes that it's not fair to have a dangerous job and a family. I'm reminded of both that scene with O'Brien in the jeffery's tubes just a few episodes ago and the final episode when Bashir gets together with Ezri and he says, "You know, I've never been into battle with someone I've slept with before."

I love that at the end Bashir talks about becoming friends with people who face death with you and O'Brien's still think that Bashir should just not talk so much.

I love that Keiko's determination and Sisko's willingness to listen saved them as much as I love that fact that Keiko was actually wrong.
