This wasn't happening. Except, it was. He just expected a free dinner and some sports conversation. He didn't hate Burt. He was okay. He made his mom happy. But, this wasn't how this was supposed to go down. It was too soon. He was happy without a step-brother to live with. He didn't need this ( Read more... )

So the date with the coffee shop women had, gone badly. He knew it was going to. He knew it was. I mean, she was nice enough, but he was trapped between not wanting to move too quickly, and the fact that he was dreadfully lonely.

Not lonely enough to be desperate, but he was lonely. He'd been married for Christ sake. His wife had been his best friend, his lover, his confidant, his everything and suddenly he didn't have that, and was probably looking for it in all the wrong places. Well needless to say they'd parted ways with simple "well, I'll call you later then?" They never would. He knew that, and he was sure she knew that.

Great, now he was going to find a new place to get his morning coffee, as if his week hadn't been going bad enough. He sighed and swallowed down his fourth White Russian, or maybe it was his fifth. Either way, he's sucked them down fast, and he was only just now starting to feel it, though the buzz would be gone soon, it never lasted. You only got a few moments of forgetting about the world down the frosted crystal glass, though he was sure it wasn't real crystal. The bar tender noticed Will's empty glass taking it.

"You want another buddy?" Will seemed to think for a moment and shook his head.

"Just, get me whatever you have on tap thats good, and by good I mean not cheap." The bar tender nodded, coming back with a glass of a local pale ale. To be honest Will always did drinking backwards, he'd suck down the hard liquor and sip on the beer. But, that was just the way he did things.

Taking a gulp, the beer burned down Finn's throat. No, burn wasn't the right word. He didn't quite know how to put it, anyway, but, whatever it was he wasn't used to it. He should drink slower, he told himself. He needed to drink slower.

Shifting in his seat, he brushed his leg against the person sitting next to him and he mumbled a, "Sorry," before turning to look at the guy.

Eyed wide, he slid the beer to his right almost into another guy's. So, he kept it to his right, sort of, offline.

"Oh - Mr. Schue...?" he said, looking away. He didn't say it. He wasn't seen. He wasn't here. And his teacher wasn't here.

People got bumped into at bars, that was just a fact of life. Things like that happened. So Will didn't even think about it until he heard his name, a name very few people called him. Well actually it wasn't so much that few people called him by Mr. Schue, it was just that the demographic of people that called him it was one demographic, students.

He choked on his beer and looked to whomever had just spoken to him. Okay he wasn't that drunk, was he? Was Finn really sitting next to him, and what was that in his hand, alcohol?! He blinked. He had to be imagining it, he was drunk. That was the only logical explanation. He had to be, but he knew that just wasn't the case. So he opened his eyes once more and there he still sat and Will panicked.

Letting go of the beer, Finn looked up at the bartender. "Can I get some fries?" He asked, not adding in an 'also.' "Oh, Mr. Schue!" He tries to feign shock in favor of a pleasant surprise. "I was just - working on my game and I came up to get fries," he said, nodding along with his story.

"Funny...seeing you here," he said, smiling, the 'here' sort of disappearing into the ether.

Will narrowed his eyes. Staring the other down. He looked around for only a second to see if he was accompanied, and if there was any other ass he had to kick, he grabbed a hold of his drink. Pointing to the bar tender.

"Can we get those fries on the patio?" The bar tender nodded and Will stood pointing at Finn and then motioning towards the patio. It was a warm night, but not too many people were outside, they could talk, in private.

"Don't forget your drink." He said dryly grabbing his own as he walked back towards the back of the bar and onto the patio, finding only one person outside smoking and most of the tables empty.

Finn had never really seen the disciplinary side of Mr. Schuester and a part of him wanted to go to the bathroom, i.e. run, but he couldn't let himself. Instead, he smiled at the bartender and then took his half-empty beer, crossing over to the patio door.

Pausing, he took a deep breath before stepping outside. He was comfortable in a t-shirt out there. Slowly but surely, he joined Mr. Schue at the edge, setting his drink down on the railing.

That's because it was a side he didn't use often. He felt most problems could be solved by talking, not discipline but this? This was far beyond talking, at least. Regular talking. Once he got outside Will gave the young man a second before their eyes met, his own still narrowed.

"What, the hell are you thinking?!" His voice was low, yet stern.

"I was thinking that I was having a beer," he answered matter of factly. Most days, Finn was a well-meaning teenage boy. Tonight he was the rebellious kind and he didn't have time for authority. "Nice patio," he said, leaning against the railing.

"You're underage Finn, how the hell did you even get in here." To be honest Will couldn't believe that Finn of all people would be here. He expected this kind of stuff from, well anyone but Finn. "Do you even understand the consequences of you being here! You're risking everything you know on a stupid beer." The last sentence was harsh, and louder then the rest, though he was being sure too keep his voice to a soft whisper.

"Tell me, is it worth it." He had half a mind to knock the beer right from Finns hand, but that was perhaps the alcohol he'd already consumed talking.

"What do you care, Mr. Schue?" he asked. "You're here tonight, too. Drinking. So, what if I -- I have an ID," he answered, nonchalantly. Finn could play the part of Puck for the night. But, he knew the facade was going to pay.

"No," he finally added, hanging his head. "It's not worth it, Mr. Schue..." he grumbled, sighing.

"What do I care...?" Those words burned in Will's ears. "What do I care, I sacrificed my life for you kids, my wife, my house!" He was angry, probably more so then he really should have been. Glee Club wasn't the only thing that made his marriage fall apart. But he wasn't really thinking so coherently. "But no, I really don't care do I?" He closed his eyes shaking a bit in anger, trying to calm himself down before he spoke again.

"Not only could you not be welcomed back again to Club, but you can kiss your athletic privileges, maybe even school, good bye." At least he realized that what he was doing was foolish. "I can't believe throwing away all that even crossed your mind, what were you thinking!"

"I was thinking that my mom is throwing away our life to Burt Hummel. I was thinking that nothing seems to be going right, right now and I was thinking that beer as...beer. Plenty of people drink beer underage. It's not like I'm the first!"

Now he was raising his voice and the one customer outside was going inside.

"We're not okay. You for your reasons and me for mine and you gotta' admit that, Mr. Schue!"

Blinking, he tried to fight back tears before collapsing forward into his teacher's arms.

"That's life." It was a cold way to put it, but. It was life. "Life doesn't always work out how we want it. But pissing away your life for a stupid drink?" He raised his voice to match Finns. "Of course you're not the first but you're smarter then that god damnit!"

He was glad that the other left. Because right now this was really a moment that required no one but themselves. At the mention of admitting that he wasn't okay Will sighed. He wasn't okay, that was true. Though the second Finn collapses into his arms he's taken aback, ignoring what the other said for now.

"This really bothers you, doesn't it?"

"Things are just not cool right now," he admitted, pulling back. "I just needed to get away. And - and I didn't think about how anything would affect anything. We don't do that. We do. Or, we don't do. But, we don't really think. Unless we're Rachel..." he said, his hand coming to his forehead.

"I've never seen you this angry."
