vacation

I need a vacation.

I'm the type of person who needs at least one real vacation every year. I get my wanderlust from my mother. She takes more vacations than any other person I know. To say I'm jealous of her vacation time would be an understatement. Since last year was "the year of the baby" all my vacation time was spent re-cooperating from birth and trying to learn how to live in a sleep deprived haze. Important though it was, I would definitely NOT call maternity leave a vacation.

In May we're taking the family to Buffalo, NY. My father moved back recently--back because it's where he was born and grew up. So, I'm taking my son to meet his grandfather and Elery and Savannah are coming along as well to meet that side of my family. I have two aunts I plan to visit and several cousins as well. It's also just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Canadian border and Niagara Falls so we'll be headed there too. It's just a long weekend (Sat - Tues) so I haven't yet decided it if qualifies as a "real" vacation but it's somewhere completely different and I plan to do as many touristy things as we can afford.

Other than the Buffalo/Niagara trip, we have a few events lined up like BassNectar, InterFuse, Blue Man Group, and possibly Wakarusa. In October there's Resonance, of course, but I think our next BIG trip will be a year from now in spring 2013. I SO want to take the kids to Disney. Also, I've never spent a substantial amount of time at Disney, it's been one park, one day then off to something else. For my next Disney trip, I want to stay at a disney resort, visit all the parks, and just take our time exploring the parks. It will be just before Zaine's 2nd birthday (ack!) so he'll be free both on the flight and Disney and it will be just before Savannah's 10th birthday so she'll still qualify for a kid's disney park ticket. She'll probably also be more likely to remember this trip. I grew up with Disney--I mean, it was only 3 hours away from where I lived. I wish I could do the same with my kids because it was seriously so magical for me and I want to pass that down the line. Kinda hard living smack dab in the middle of the U.S. now though. Ah well. I'll shoot for every 5 years or so. :)
