house, $$, jobs, etc

Closing is set for August 31st. We've received no further documentation that the windows have been ordered but our Realtor says she called Lowe's to confirm. The windows are supposed to be in August 22nd/23rd. Yesterday we went to the house to scrape the garage. Well, we planned to power wash it. This turned out to be a much more arduous task than we could have imagined. After about 45 minutes worth of work, and 2 hours worth of clean up we decided we're just going to fork out the $$ and side the garage. This will keep the flaking paint from being exposed and according to our Realtor, will meet our FHA guideline. Believe you and me, it is 100% worth the extra cost. MIL thinks we can side the whole thing for under $400. We're also going to replace the entrance door (not the big sliding doors) and a couple of boards where we can see termite damage.

On Thursday I received a check from our apartment complex for the full amount of our security deposit. Hooray! The next morning we awoke to find that Elery's passenger side window was busted out. Not so hooray. No idea how it happened. Luckily through Elery's parents' contacts he was able to find a place that would sell him the window for $40 and then he went to his parents' shop and used their tools to pull the door panel off and install it himself. That alone saved him about $80. Hooray! We still will need to get it tinted so it matches the rest of the windows. He said not to worry about it but I really think it's something we should do. I want him to have a nice vehicle, ya know? Then, when we were leaving our house yesterday, Elery's trunk decided to stop latching. Seriously?!?! God I feel so bad for him. He's only had that car for a little over a year and in that time he's replaced the motor, replaced a tire, replaced a window, had it broken into 4 times, had it stolen but recovered, replaced all the tires thanks to the car thief and still has no speakers in it (he uses his MP3 player for music). I mean really? Yes, cars require maintenance but the majority of these things is far beyond what most people expect when they purchase a car, ya know? Luckily, El's fairly handy and he was able to take it to his brother's house and work on it there and get it working. Whew.

Elery was able to get his schedule at his primary job changed so that now he only works there Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Wednesdays and Fridays he will work for his parents--plus he'll have school on Wednesdays and Thursdays. He's VERY excited about this change since he is not super fond of his primary job and loves working with his family. It's also great because now he'll be home earlier on Fridays since I think the shop closes around 6 whereas he worked til 7 when he was working Fridays at his primary job. I know he'll be much happier on Fridays now. I know he hates working when I have the day off but since he'll like his Friday job now, I don't think it will be as big of a deal. :)
