so my roommate sent me this pretty interesting quiz online, basically its 11 simple questions which reveal which political candidate in the upcoming election has the closest views to your own, i find it interesting because a.) I have never even heard of some of the guys on here b.) my views align closest with John Edwards and c.) it took me about 20 minutes to decide if i was for line-item veto or not
http://www.wqad.com/Global/link.asp?L=259460 for those of you not familiar with line-item veto it basically lets the president cut out the parts of a bill that he wants and still allow the rest of the bill to pass
ex: Congress is about to pass a bill about federal health care funding but, the senator from Nebraska is a douche bag and wont allow it to pass with a amendment stating that Nebraska will receive 50 million dollars to repave all the roads. They amend it and the bill passes. Now if the president has line-item veto power he can say "Go Fuck Yourselves Nebraska" and veto the part about money for roads while still giving people who need medicare their funding. In a perfect world this would decrease pork-barrel spending or in other words waste.
So it all looks like gravy huh? Why is this something I had to think about for so long?
Because our presidents are historically jack asses and would use this power selfishly as opposed to using it for the greater good. Instead of passing the bill, the president could just veto the part about health care and kill it right there or even worse use it to eliminate partisan parts of the bill that don't favor him or his cronies.
I'm not really sure why I ranted about line-item veto but hey thats what happens when you quit your job and are struggling to find a new one.
