The other night, drunk on Acacia pinot noir, I asked my boyfriend to impress me. I didn't really - I think he lamented and said, "There's no impressing you!" So in turn, I asked him why he loves Fellini so much. Paraphrased, he said, "Film can capture dreams, and Fellini understood that. All his films were dream-like, and always pushed the limits of film in terms of possibility and imagination". I think what Aaron said was more eloquent, but the recall is clouded with wine.

He asked me why I like David Lynch. Not one for originality, I said Lynch understood nightmares. NO, wait, I said quickly - Lynch understands that there is a darkness lying beneath everything. While things look and seem normal, something terrible and fascinating is happening. There are times his movies bring you to that feeling you get...at the edge of sleep and some terrible thought.
