I’m back from Anime Expo 2007 and dude, I’m still tired, lol. I might post some pics later, time and energy permitting.
About the SKIN concert: it was a hit and miss. For the ppl who purchased premier tickets, it feels like AX did the attendees a real disservice. Half of my group (aka, me and Linlin) got awesome seats, the other half (Remy and Nabs) got crappy seats way in the back. Linlin and I didn’t know this until after the concert, but I still feel bad about it.
The concert itself was pretty good. Linlin and I were eleven rows from the stage, 30-40 feet away from Gackt. *thumbs up* I had the aisle seat near the center, so I had a clear view until all these fangirls rushed to the front (which then made me have to stand up too).
The music itself was ok. I’m still not a J-rock enthusiast, so I can’t say I loved it, but regardless, the concert was entertaining. Highlights: Gackt gyrating and touching himself several times (since I was so close, this was especially entertaining ^o^), Yoshiki and Gackt playing their own pianos (while I-forget-who played the violin; Sugizo maybe?), Miyavi on crack, Gackt spraying the audience w/ his water bottles, and Yoshiki jump kicking his drum set and falling on his ass. Hilarious.
Oh, and how Gackt introduced each of the members was funny too. “Two years ago, I hated this guy...” ^o^
The unexpected best part of the whole concert was Miyavi. I went in not knowing anything about the dude except for what I gleaned off
wiki, so it was really fun seeing him prancing around onstage, squirming along the ground, rubbing up against Gackt and Ju-ken, etc. He’s like a skinny Hard Gay w/ a guitar and ponytail. XD
After the concert, my seat was unexpectedly good for another reason. Two fangirls came by to chat w/ the fangirls in front of me, and I saw that one of them was holding a crushed up water bottle. Turns out that it was one of the bottles that Gackt had drunk from, sprayed ppl w/, and tossed into the crowd! So, me being me, I whipped out my camera and turned it into a PG-13 movie clip, lol.
About the rest of AX: it was much more tame. I bought several more doujinshi, several more fanart commissions, and two funny t-shirts, one yaoi, the other hentai. One of the shirts is a gift. Ppl who know me should know which, heh heh.
We were also able to catch the SOS concert, which had its moments. I really enjoyed
Johnny Bosch’s theatrics, so next year, I want to check out AX Idol, as he’s always the host.
All in all, it was fun. Just tiring. Thank goodness it only happens once a year. I’m getting on in my years. Twenty-seven is right around the corner. Yikes!
