Everyone Reading This: STAY HEALTHY

A few weeks ago my dad was supposed to go in for an outpatient procedure to clear some blockage in his intestines, but something went wrong and landed him in the hospital for nine days. Once he was finally released he wasn't allowed to drive and didn't really have the energy to move around much, so I made an emergency trip back to Atlanta a week ago to help out until further notice.

I thought that was the worst things could get, but this week sure has proven me wrong. Not only is my dad still not at his best, but in the past seven days:
-Great-Uncle Len S. (mom's side) discovered he has a malignant brain tumor and maybe a year to live.
-Great-Aunt Bernie (mom's side) had a stroke; she's on life support, unconscious, and can no longer breathe on her own.
-Grandma (dad's side) was in the hospital already for a mild case of pneumonia, had a stroke, and is now in a medically induced coma and not expected to last another week.

Granted, all of these are elderly relatives so it's not entirely unexpected, but piling it all on at once just seems a bit much (I'm watching my back, I'm telling you that). Looks like another change of scenery soon: a nine-hour drive with a sick (and now depressed) dad up to Indianapolis. Who knows how long we'll be there.

Looking forward to Dragon*Con more than you can possibly imagine.
