What exactly is the role of women (of the 21st century)?
Through sociology, I've read quite a bit of feminist viewpoints and of course, the ever-changing role of women in society. It's funny how women want to venture out of domestic households because they want to gain more self-worth in the society, yet complain about having to juggle more than they were supposed to. Personally speaking, I feel that women are trying to escape domestic chores altogether. But can they ever succeed? Damn those gender stereotypes.
I always feel embarrassed for the fact that I don't cook/wash/clean for my family, especially since I'm the only girl in the family. But there is always an excuse. For example, last night, my dad asked me to cook a pot of plain porridge and wait for him to come home with the food. He actually asked me in a worried tone and repeated the procedures a couple of times to make sure it got to my head. Now, everyone (I hope) knows how easy it is to cook plain porridge right? Alright, in case you don't, it's just adding rice with lotsa water, and boiling it. So, naturally, I felt insulted that my dad doesn't trust me with such an easy chore.
Me: I know how to cook plain porridge, lah! Tsk.
Dad: Okay okay, I'll be back soon.
[So I prepared the porridge and left it to boil. A while later, I smelled something burning.]
Me (runs to the kitchen): Oh sh*t!
[Dad came home at the exact moment and of course, smelled something burning too.]
Dad (walks into the kitchen): Ah ha! I knew it!
Me: ...
Now, why am I writing about this? Because my maid is gone and my house is in a mess. Because I always see my dad coming home during lunch time to cook for me. Because I feel so fcuking useless.
These are the stuff my dad cooks for lunch. How can I ever compare to that?
