Birthday Madness

Mar 03, 2009 14:56

In retrospect, I'm really glad I planned a trip to New York City the weekend before my birthday, and a trip to Chicago the weekend following my birthday. Because my actual birthday? Not that awesome.

The weekend started off very well, with Mark kybearfuzz treating me to an intoxicating dinner, and a productive evening rehearsal.

Saturday was a different story.

It was already going to be a long day, with rehearsals in the morning and afternoon. But just after 5:00 Saturday morning, the primary storage array on our file server decided to fail. In the middle of the weekly full backup. This of course is the day after Brian #2's last day.

So I spent most of the morning bringing the array back online. Then the backup software was having trouble authenticating to restore. I ended up calling Brian #2, who was kind enough to help me troubleshoot for a few hours (he was stumped too), and I initiated a full restore around 3:00. I went home to wait for it to complete (took about 7 hours).

In the meantime, rather than sit at home with my stress (which was immense), or engage in other even-less-desirable activities, I gladly accepted an invite to dinner, movie, and bar-time with Mark kybearfuzz, Mike cubtharsis, Bill and Matt. We finished "Fired Up" at around midnight, so I ended up skipping the bar-time. But I still had a really great evening.

Plus, the notes from all of you, and the calls, and the e-mails and e-cards and facebook wall posts... they were all great. Thanks so much :)

On Sunday after church, I went with John johnskreet and his momz to see some condos downtown. There are some really nice spaces down there, but "urban living" is so foreign to me. Exciting, but foreign. Someday, perhaps. I certainly wouldn't miss cutting grass, ignoring my landscaping, fixing toilets and shoveling the driveway.

Then there was rehearsing, and then meeting Mark kybearfuzz and Joe snowboardjoe for dinner at Claddagh. So that was a delightful end. I wish I'd had more time to hang out with them on Monday, as Joe seems like a terrific guy in person and it was great meeting him.

As an epilogue to the post-Brian worklife, lots of other things (out of my control) blew up yesterday morning and made for a completely insane day. I told my business manager that if my days continued to be like that, she'd be looking for two of us instead of one :)

And speaking of that, I already have 26 resumes, and the job hits the newspaper this coming Sunday. Help is on the way!
