2006 Year In Review

Jan 02, 2007 12:05

I celebrated the coming of 2007 exactly the same way as the last two years - an intimate get-together at Aaron and Sean's. I think for 2008 I'll give them a break and have the party at my house. Surely I can have the house cleaned by then.

Work has been slow for the last few weeks. We've had a few calls this morning but it still hasn't picked up all that much. So without further adieu, here's my year in review! here's my year in review!

January
I kicked off the year doing the Discovery Channel's "National Body Challenge". It lasted for a while, introduced me to my almost-daily current breakfast (the peanut-butter banana smoothie), and helped me lose 11 pounds in two months before I lost my momentum in March. I'm going to try it again this year and see if I can pick it back up. I also made a memorable post documenting what I'm looking for in a mate.

February
February was and is typically an extremely busy month for the Cincinnati Men's Chorus. Between regular rehearsals, Valentine's Day serenades, the "Winter Heat" cabaret night at Hamburger Mary's and auditioning for The Full Monty, my performance card was pretty full.

I had the unique opportunity to have an open and frank discussion about issues related to sexuality in medicine with a group of UC medical students.

Notably, I also rocked a pink shirt for the first time.

March
Kicked off this month with two terrific parties: the annual PFLAG scholarship banquet and CMC's Oscars party.

Cincinnati's city council made another huge leap toward equality in approving a GLBT-inclusive anti-discrimination clause to the city's Human Rights Ordinance.

Erik (need_2_chat) visited during our poorly-attended Richard Rodgers concert "Bustin' Out All Over" and we had a lot of fun getting to know each other.

April
I took my annual trip to New York City, this time staying with the adorable and wonderfully accommodating mat_t. We ate good food, fueled my obsession with Altar Boyz and met the notorious Dino burnoutfuture.

I got a new cell phone. My first non-work-related cell in years.

May
I flew to Omaha to spend a weekend with Erik, further cementing his desire to leave town! I was elected to a two-year term as Board President of CMC.

June
CMC's Pride concerts at a hot but acoustically pleasing venue convinced us and many of our patrons that we were correct - the time was right to move out of our performance home in the Aronoff Center.

I marched in my first Pride parade and repeated a trip to Columbus to check out theirs. The next day, between a riverboat cruise fundraiser for CMC and part two of Cari's birthday party, I drank pretty much the entire day.

At work we moved one of our clinics out of the trashy project-looking building it has resided in for decades.

July
Moved the administrative group to the new building across the hall from the clinic. Lots of social-time with the chorus crowd. A sad goodbye to nonljeric as he moved to Alabama. A wonderful weekend visit from vdubcub, more travels to Columbus, and my first time ever riding Cincinnati's METRO bus system.

August
Went to my second (annual?) Market Days in Chicago thanks to my ever-gracious hosts mikiedoggie and dawdle. On this trip I was introduced to the meatgasm.

This was my first full month riding METRO.

I was asked to speak about our director Patrick at his doctoral graduation party and had the crowd laughing during most of my spiel.

September
I spent Labor Day weekend in Miami for the 2006 GALA Annual Conference. I did some networking and left energized in my new role as CMC's president. I did more networking as I began attending the bi-monthly Bob Allen lunches for arts organizations in the city.

I walked in the 5-mile AVOC Walk To Stop AIDS.

I flew down to Atlanta, meeting up with _armageddon in another first. Aside from the slightly-distressing bug infestation I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and his company.

The annual Pride Night at Paramount's Kings Island brought visitors from near and far on a crisp autumn night.

October
The chorus celebrated the ending of its 15th anniversary year and the beginning of its 16th season with "Reach Out And Touch" - to phenomenal audience reviews, including from Erik and Mark (beeftenderloin), who drove down - separately - to see it.

I went to Chicago for a second time, getting to see Mikie and cubbish's kickass new apartment and the touring version of Altar Boyz with misterberns.

My Yahoo! account and all that went with it - messenger, personals contacts, mail and photos, were deactivated with no reasonable explanation, nor any potential for recourse.

My friend Steven (coolukman), the funniest, cutest, and most inspiring boy in all of Bardstown, KY and perhaps the world, passed on after a long battle with Ewing's Sarcoma.

November
My uncle Keith got re-married. I drank boxed wine and danced. Cari found out Dion had been cheating on her and they broke up.

Democrats took control of the legislature (woo hoo!)

I power-walked 6.2 miles in the Thanksgiving Day Run/Walk with shimbexprovides and two of my little sisters. Thanksgiving dinner was a blur.

My Black Friday tradition continued and I was up earlier than ever.

I skipped my 10-year high school class reunion.

December
I adopted Peanut! He likes to poop outside the box (inspiring, no?), so his New Year's present was a covered litterbox. That put an end to pooping outside the box (fingers crossed), though he's still not burying it.

Christmas Eve and Day were a blur.

Cari got engaged to James and the world was again at peace.
