Wow, where do I start...

This past weekend I went on a field trip for school to Arezzo, Assisi, Urbino, Sansepulchre(o?), and Monterchi. It was amazing. And weird. And I want to live in the mountains.

So Saturday I wake up at the buttcrack of dawn and meet at the Piazza Adua to take the tourbus with the SACI people to the fieldtrip. Two of my roommates went along, but thats not important because I was seriously Miss Anti-Social this weekend. Cant really explain why, but may be due to the fact that I was just tagging along cuz it was a field trip for the other Renaissance history class and I dont know most of those people, or maybe it was because I was finally getting out of the city again and just wanted to experience this without the taintedness of other people's being. Lol. Who knows. Anywho, I was that creepy, silent, on her own girl who appears to think she is too good to talk to anyone else. It was fun. So anywho, after a long busride we get to Arezzo. For any of you Italian film lovers, this is where "La Vita e Bella/Life is Beautiful" was filmed. So I was super excited because that is by far my MOST favoritest film ever. So rent it. It has subtitles or get the dubbed version. So anywho, we tour different churches to look at frescoes and such and have a short caffe break. It was a cute little town and there was this crazy band playing all dressed up medieval-like playing a fanfare and being filmed while we were there. It was pretty cool. I was still trying to wake up from the busride though. So then we got to Assisi, which was amazing.

Assisi was like a fairytale. Not kidding. Its all highup on a mountain and such and as we climbed toward the church of San Francesco where St. Francis of Assisi is buried this huge cloud formation moved it. Not fog, clouds, thats how high up it is. And so we couldnt see the top of the church and then when we toured the church and went to the top, we couldnt see the ground, so it was like we were all up in a castle in the clouds and it was wonderful. Then we went to S.Chiara and then hiked up the steepest streets ever to Rocca Maggiore, which is a huge castle/fort on the top of the mountain that overlooks Assisi. By then the clouds had overtaken the city and the sun was setting...it was really breathtaking. I got tons of pictures of it, so I'll try to get on uploading them. Assisi was really magical and romantic. Definitely wanna go back there. So after we descend the mountain on foot and reach the bus we drive to a nearby church...have no clue what it was called by apparently its where St. Francis lived as a monk or whatever. And they had turtledoves there...two of them! Lol. I had been listening to Christmas music so it was perfect. Then we walked around town in the dark a little while, before heading to the monastery where we would be sleeping.

So we drive 2 hours further into the Appenine(sp?) Mountains where it is pitchblack, no signs of life, no lights, and these crazy hairpin turns that the busdriver flew through... It was kinda starting to feel horror-movie like as we pulled up to this little group of buildings with just one high barnlight illuminating the paths between the little stone structures. Apparently it used to be a monastery and now its like a hotel, but hotel isnt really the word for it...its still just like the monastery but with more beds and stuff. So we get there and unload into our rooms of 6-10 people and then the owners served us dinner of salad, pasta, bread, porkroast, fruit, and this raisin-bread which was all very yummy. It kinda felt like choircamp at that Christian camp. Definitely felt like I was back in highschool.

So at 720am we have breakfast- by the way, they do cereal with warmed milk? weird. And then we go to Urbino, which was also a cute town with incredibly steep streets. We saw Raphael's house, and the Doge's Palace and some other things. Oh and I invited myself along to have lunch with people I didnt know/like...it was very unlike me. Very odd. We did lots more touring then, but its all kind of blending together right now cuz I'm still tired. Then in the evening we did San Sepulchre(o) and Monterchi. I could easily settle down in any of those places when I get old. I was so happy to go crunching through the fallen leaves at night. felt like home. And there arent trees readily available near us in Florence, so leaves were nice.

This was a seriously condensed version of my weekend, but I left Florence at 7am Saturday, saw 5 towns, and returned last night at 9pm, so I am exhausted. And I was so homesick all weekend. Not sure why either, but as soon as I got back to the apartment I called my Mom and talked to her for a while, which both helped and made it worse. Eh. I talked with Andrea, had a breakdown, and today I feel better. Heh. So thats that. But I loved being in the wilderness. It was a much needed change.

I felt like I was going to have a really good update, but apparently you only get to know my past whereabouts. I'm not really feeling like typing anymore. So if you want me to send you pics from this weekend, let me know.

Oh and I only have ONE MONTH AND 4 DAYS TILL I AM BACK IN CINCINNATI!!!! yay! I'm very excited. All of us here that are only staying a semester are getting to that point where we are pretty much ready to go back. A few of my friends are staying a year here... I couldnt do it. Lol. I miss being able to drive places and good food and Meijers and HEATING (note-they may say heating exists here, but they lie. they have all these crazy energy conservation rules and so even though they say you get heat, you dont. So its cold).
