anyone who has watched amelie...what do you think amelie says about gender roles or how does it treat gender and sexuality?
for me, amelie is on the face of it, a movie that shows a main character who is a woman, who can go out and accomplish things for herself, is seemingly un-impeded by her gender. But why do her acts of goodness end when she is in her final pursuit of Nino? When throughout the film we are shown mere sex and sexuality as being not only comic but destructive as well, wh are Nino and Amelie shown in bed together the morning after having their first kiss. the thing that unsettles me is, can it possibly be true that the main conflict (the love interest) is resolved when man and woman are together in what the director wants us to believe is true love.
so, is amelie no longer a slave to male authority but rather to love (which requires, the director wants us to see, a man and a woman for successful attainment)
THIS IS WHAT I AM DOING WITH MY TIME
