Eponine takes a step, and then pauses, remembering Valjean’s gentle touch. It’s weird, how his touch seems to linger, like a bruise that doesn’t hurt. She thinks of his concerned look, and another, bitter laugh escapes her. Well, let him worry and wonder. He doesn’t know her.
Against her will, Eponine survives the barricade. Things get more complicated from there.
