Jeremy is dealing with a lot of huge changes in his life - and your arrival, welcome though it undoubtedly is, triggered many of them. Don't think of them as gross and disgusting torn and hole-infested boxers, think of them as something both comfortable and comforting - something very personal. It isn't about the boxers, and if everyone is honest with themselves, Jeremy would admit to it. However, when you are living with someone, it is always a good idea to double check before throwing anything away that might be a personal item. Probably, had you not thrown them away and just bought him three pairs of boxers, he would have worn the new ones, and eventually forgotten the old ones.

I'd apologise. If the trash bag is still available, I would fish them out and wash them, put them back into a drawer. For some reason, men just don't understand having to change boxers every day. I have no idea why, the idea is kind of disgusting, but it's been a common theme for my relationships.

It's not rational, but it is a boy/girl kind of thing. It shouldn't be a game-changing/break up kind of argument, so long as it doesn't get blown out of proportion. I got my boyfriend to wear new boxers by buying him some myself, and saying that I thought he looked REALLY good in blue. You will have to hold off on that for a little while, because it became a hot issue. I have noticed that men's undies don't seem to get dirty like women's undies do, provided no one is doing calisthetics in hot weather or something else that triggers a lot of sweat.

I hate it when boys are irrational, but I will probably take your advice.
