Spike vs Buffy (in fic....and otherwise)

Wby is it that generally in fanfic it's okay for Spike to be horrible to Buffy as long as he sees the error of his ways and makes amends or whatever but when Buffy is horrible to Spike, we all have to hate her until forever and eternity

I just loved Spike from the time he stepped on my screen to the time he left. It was just something about that character that had me mesmerized. I think for me it was just the fact that he had so much emotion for whomever he loved or hated at the time. He was the reason I stayed with that show as long as I did. I was leaving one time but he came back and I was hooked again. JMO

I think you bring up some good points - probably why I read very little Spuffy fic (unless its by my beloved and uber talented friends who get the relationship)...I particularly hate it when one character is so idealized in AU...the power and fire of the Spuffy relationship to me is that it was the most human, real one on the show...it was flawed, it was dark, and it was powerful. It's sort of like the flame wars people get in over Bangel vs. Spuffy. I've always approached both based on what point they occurred during...how old Buffy was at the time, what she had faced. No relationship or person is that 'perfect' and yes, I don't get how Buffy is always the bitch when she gives Spike what he deserves sometimes - they are both stubborn, hard-headed, and passionate characters who let their blood and emotions propel them sometimes when they should and other times when they should...that's what I love about the relationship...but now look who's babbling ^_^ hehehehe *cuddles* Just wanted you to know I agree with you whole heartedly ;)

Two thoughts:

1) I think Bad Buffy reguardless and Good Spike Reguardless might just be the (unfair) way women and men are often measured? Tough women are bitches. Tough men are tough men.

2)James Marsters is so damn pretty that fans would even forgive Spike's attempted rape.

Well, some people have Buffy problems.

There's a reason why nobody ever tried to make the popular blonde cheerleader into the superhero before.

And there are enough oh-poor-Spike moments that you can woobify him as much or a s little as you please.
