Spike vs Buffy (in fic....and otherwise)
Wby is it that generally in fanfic it's okay for Spike to be horrible to Buffy as long as he sees the error of his ways and makes amends or whatever but when Buffy is horrible to Spike, we all have to hate her until forever and eternity?
And why does it seem like, in AU fics, people want Buffy to be this nice, happy, perky, perfect, completely untarnished psychologically person?
It just seems like Spike can be as bad as he wants and as long as, at some point, he says sorry (and actually is), it's okay, but when Buffy does the same, she's still a bitch.
Is it that BV or AU we want Buffy to be S4-ish Buffy and Spike can be whoever the hell he wants to be as long as he becomes a bit like S6/7 Spike at some point?
And do you see, say Buffy having some sort of psychological trama--or just something that seriously screws with her self-esteem and sense of self, the same as Spike having his demon to battle with--things they both have to (at least mostly) overcome.....But do you see them differently?
And, just one more, how much is Buffy allowed to do to Spike, how mean is she allowed to be (whatever her reasons) before he's no longer supposed to forgive her? (and do you like S6/S7 because I think that's part of the answer in a way)
