Life update

I am happy. I have a wonderful son and a wonderful hubby who is a good daddy to our son. I'm just really happy with our family and my life right now. Yeah, I'd love to have a cleaner, neater house, but I've always wanted that but I've never had the time, energy, or motivation to really whip it into shape. I can live with it the way it is. :)

Amazing the perspective a few hours out of the house by myself (work) gives me :)

Ask me again at about 6:00 a.m., and I'll probably be ready to sell Corwin to the gypsies for a quarter. (Okay, not really, but I'll threaten to!) We can't seem to get his sleep schedule straightened out no matter how hard we try. He's napping pretty darn well these days (most of the time goes down without a fuss and sleeps anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours). But he's reverted to waking up every 3-4 hours all night long. And he won't go back to sleep unless he gets fed. Mind you, he's not nursing to sleep -- he doesn't fall asleep nursing any more, so he's always awake when he gets put back in his bed. He just wakes up and cries and fusses and won't go back to sleep until I feed him. I can calm him down by holding him and walking around (singing or not doesn't seem to matter), but if I put him back in bed without nursing first, he just starts screaming again as soon as I set him down. Andrew's tried dealing with him (figuring maybe proximity to food source is the issue), but thus far hasn't had any luck in getting him back to sleep.

We're going to try re-introducing solids this coming week, so we'll see if that makes a difference. I'm having trouble believing he's really hungry that often in the middle of the night given that he slept 10-12 hours straight at night for a month a few weeks ago. But I can't think of any other reason why he won't go back to sleep unless he gets to nurse. It's all horribly confusing, and his pediatrician isn't really much help. Babies are just enigmatic creatures I guess. I want him to learn to talk so he can tell me what's wrong. :P

We've done a lot of shopping this week. Earlier this week, I acquired a 2-quart double boiler with strainer insert and a mini food processor from Amazon.com to use to make baby food for Corwin. Yesterday we hit Babies R Us to check out the Britax Marathon car seat and shop for some other odds and ends for Corwin. Turns out that while the Marathon does fit rear-facing in the center rear of my Civic, it's tall enough that it blocks most of my rear view -- not a situation I'm comfortable driving with all the time for the next year or so. So we ended up ordering a Britax Roundabout instead. It's a smaller seat (only goes up to 40 lbs as opposed to the Marathon's 65) but it's a better fit for my car and I'll be a safer driver with the Roundabout. Whenever we upgrade to a larger vehicle, we'll evaluate where Corwin is size-wise and get either an additional convertible seat (probably the Marathon) or a booster seat and play musical car seats between our vehicles as necessary. The Roundabout also has the advantage of coming with Dawn's ringing endorsement -- she says it's easy to move between vehicles, and she highly recommended the Denim cover as it stays cooler than the suede fabrics, especially the darker colored ones.

We got Corwin two more pairs of 12-month sized lightweight footed pajamas, sadly in the same two patterns he already has. They were the only two patterns (aside from a baseball one) Babies R Us had in 12-month, and I have been looking for these pajamas for a couple of weeks now (failing to find them at Target, Dillards, and Macy's -- though I found some clearance ones in the 18-month size at Macy's that I snapped up as they were $2.40 each). We also picked up some Halloween-wear -- a baby's first Halloween long-sleeved onesie and a Tigger costume. :) He's my son...of course he'll be dressing up for Halloween!

Lastly, we got him a couple of Halloween board books, and a Sqwish. We found the Sqwish on a shelf near the O-balls, picked it up to look at it, and Corwin immediately grabbed for it and tried to shove it in his mouth. We figured that meant it was a keeper. :) I looked at the Manhattan Toy site after we got home, and they actually have a lot of nifty-looking baby and toddler toys, many of which don't include batteries. I'll have to remember to look at them again when we start shopping for Christmas.

I think that was it for our shopping adventures, though I'm sure I've forgotten something.

Andrew's computer is still at Fry's. He's been calling every 2 days to check up on it. Today they said they think it's the motherboard, but they still have a few other things to eliminate first to be certain. Andrew's (rightfully) a bit grumpy at me for throwing out the receipt for his computer upgrades at the end of last year. I'm gonna be a bit grumpy at me, too, if they would have been covered under warranty still, but we can't prove it. *sigh*

Work's been going well for me so far. This weekend is my first to work both Saturday and Sunday. I'm amazed at how tired I feel this evening, when I only worked 5 hours and they hardly qualified as stressful (I actually got to spend a fair chunk of time just sitting and reading, as there weren't many questions and there were two of us manning the desk). I think the tiredness is probably more due to my interrupted sleep than the actual working. I'm still awaiting my first paycheck, though. Hopefully soon! :) Tomorrow the new Electronic Resources Librarian (my former position) is coming in to pick my brain about ER stuff. That's going to be odd. It still feels a bit weird to me not to be doing that job any more. It was especially strange the first time I got an email from the new person with Electronic Resources Librarian listed as her title. Ah well. I wouldn't be happy working full time right now, and I well know it. :)
