Awfully tiring week, so I'm glad it's about to end. I never knew I could cry so hard my head hurt, hahaha - and wind up missing school the next day because of that, whut. Has the term "crying hangover" ever been coined? Or I'm going to be creative right now and invent that term, heh. It's not altogether bad though - I felt a lot more emotionally stable after - calming down, catching up with my sleep debt, some obligatory self-reflection - I don't know which, but it definitely helped in some way or another.

Regardless, went to ADM Show 2011, a grad show for the School of Art, Design and Media this Saturday, after my art workshop with a renowned art critic in the morning. Her consultation costs were less renowned... probably for good reason, too (thank god for art class subsidies).

Some of the photography and animation works were really exciting - there was a photography series who captured his sleep patterns over a single night in a single photograph with his camera on long exposure setting. The effect was really surreal and somewhat ghostly. It would have been great if I could link some of the photos here, but I can't find them on the internet just yet. ; A ;

Project Marionette, one of my favourite works from the animation segment. Flawless CG which reminds me of Square Enix (and thus prompting to go image-search happy after I came home - I think I've suddenly fallen in love with Final Fantasy's art style). Also, I loved the narration style - switching between third-person and very interesting first-person perspectives.

Spycat and the Paper Chase, another one of my favourites! Very resolved, even trailer-wise - I found myself more satisfied after watching Spycat's trailer compared to Project Marionette's one. Not to mention absolutely cute art ;alskdfjasdf I never thought I would be interested in such an art style but they just had to prove me wrong. ( * A *)\
I was really impressed with the prep work, too. I flipped through at least three portfolios of character design, weapon design even, and setting work and the development was very well documented and clear. Oh how can I get to that stage. TT v TT (fistpumps weakly)

Another work that was pretty interesting was Gachapon Girl, a very clearly anime-inspired work. One of the students told us that this group really had to fight for their project since anime-styled art is largely frowned upon in uni... and my heart went out to them. I'm amidst character development for my own coursework project and I have to conscientiously prevent myself from over-simplifying my character because I know teachers and examiners aren't too keen on it because it makes the character seem too generic. I get their argument but... artists who are anime enthusiasts probably have some kind of distant dream to animate an anime series/draw a manga series, y'know what I mean? So I can kind of relate.

Their trailer was pretty impressive, too. It didn't entirely feel like an original work though. The art style seemed screamed KyoAni to me (the protagonist's face looked a lot like Mio) and the lineart of the characters felt kind of... forced at certain points. It was at this point when I really started to understand what my teachers had against anime-styled art under critical assessment, haha. The realisation struck me a split second after I picked up these details; it's quite scary, really, when I thought about the possibility of my work being assessed in a similar manner.
The animation and background drawings were ace, though! I especially liked the running scene where it corresponded very well with the background music (which sounded like something out of an OST). Their prep work was a lot less impressive than the first two though, unfortunately. Nevertheless, really looking forward for the final work to prove me wrong. (* u *)

These are all trailers, but the real final films are going to be screened in the middle of the June holidays! It's just at Filmgarde, Iluma so if you have time do drop by to check it out (for me)! I'll probably in the art room fighting it out with my coursework so I don't think I'll have sufficient time to pull myself away to go. Seriously hoping that the final works will be up on the interwebs after the screening though alskdjfasdf.

Here it comes! The last week of school before the June "holidays" start, which will consist of two weeks of hardcore coursework madness (back to the art room everyday!) and then making up for lost time by studying all my other subjects in the remaining two weeks. With this little time, it's a wonder if I don't fail everything. orz
